749 Change Air Intake Covers / Cockpit Infill Panels

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by DoctorW, Jul 24, 2015.

  1. Hello. Want to change the current black plastic items for carbon. Can anyone advise how easy or otherwise this is, ie how much fairing stripping is required. Bike is 2006 749.
    Thanks,
    Andrew.

  2. You'll just need to remove the side fairings and a few bolts to remove the air runner covers. Simple job :upyeah:

  4. Have you decided on any particular make??

  5. Hi. I think conquest carbon - pics look nice and a good price also. Think also the rear seat hump replacement from design corse also looks pretty decent. Costs a bit, but think it'll look good (famous last words!!)

  6. Just a further thought - does anyone have these fitted to their bike and could they advise regarding how well they fit?

  7. Removing the runners themselves, to access the air filters, is less simple. Although if you've just bought some of those long ball-ended allen keys from Lidls, you'll probably be ok. ;)

  8. Thinking as these parts are on back order anyway and I'm a genius at breaking stuff , then I can get em fitted when bike gets full service at end of year. Better someone with the requisite tools and skills me thinks...

  9. I'm guessing you are talking about the AirTube covers and not the actual AirTubes themselves. The covers are very simple as mentioned but if you buy carbon AirTubes then be aware you will not have the coolant overflow bottle. I cut mine off the original plastic AirTubes and housed in the same place using ty-wrap.

  10. Hi there - yes, the cockpit infills / airtube covers, not the actual tubes.

  11. Ah ok- just a case of taking each side of fairing off and the tube covers are screwed in with Philips head on.

  12. Go ahead and do it, it's very simple. When you take the fairing sides off though, smear some grease into the rubber grommets that the metal pins at the front locate in. This will make it ten times easier to get them back on.

  13. Thanks for responses all:upyeah:

  14. Throw up pics when its done.....

If you have a link too.

    cheers.

  15. Will do - I need to get my butt in gear and order - CC's look nice and should match the rear seat hump I got recently. Will prob get em fitted at end of summer when have bike serviced - belts, tyres etc need doing and I am wary of stripping stuff off of mine esp with crash bungs attached as dont know if I can just undo or if need support etc in place. Not a confident person in these things and with limited use of left arm then best leave things to those that can:upyeah:. Think / hope they should look pretty good, so long as the actual fit is decent[IMG]

  16. 30 secs to remove crash bung. One bolt. Another minute or so to remove each side fairing, most of which is spent grovelling underneath undoing the two bolts bottom front.

  17. Cheers. May give it a go
