749 Changing Oil Now-sieve Filter Stuck-how Does It Come Out ?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by DeanF, Jun 9, 2014.

  1. As above.

Just changing the oil & i cannot get the sieve filter out !!!! Does it screw out like the plug as it has a 14mm hex within it..? I did try to unscrew but it is very tight & would not give with a normal sized ratchet... I dont want to break it seeing as they are of a bakerlite type material...:Greedy:

    Cheers

  2. Dean Yes it just unscrews normally. Try using a wrench bar and give it a sharp crack as opposed to steady pressure. Are you turning it the correct way?
The filter is made of Nylon btw

  3. Just re looked at a posted pic & the sieve appears to be set in its own plug within the casing ... So ill get the breaker bar out as they say they are VERY TIGHT

    Cheers

  8. Told ya!
How good does it feel to get it out without snapping a great chunk out the crankcase. ;)
When I did mine I searched google and most advice had "very tight" written in upper case. Thought I would end up popping an eyeball or worse getting it undone.

I`m planning on cleaning it every second oil change, unless anyone knows different.

  9. Yes.. You were correct :D ... I was concerned about pulling the bike of its stand.. I now have no skin on my left knuckles from when it did release ....

This i what was in there !!! Much better than i expected especially when you read the Horror stories...:Wideyed: i also popped a magmet tool inside the sump area beyond the sieve just incase anything was hangin about but nothing & only a v slight bit of metallic on the magnetic plug....

Red bit looks like some form of gasket sealer & the other two appear to be crankcase paint...They are not Magnetic

  10. Nothing to worry about there.

Worth checking the filter too but yours will be clean.

    What oil did you use?

500V is seriously as good as people say and worth every penny. I wont use anything else after trying most of them.

  11. Silkolene Comp 4 10/40 synthetic... I did change the Main Filter also..

  12. Next time you change it, put 500v in and let me know what you think.

  13. Will do ....

  14. Trust me, you will notice a difference.

  15. 500 v ,ok for 999 as well ? Where can it be obtained from ?

  16. Of course as its basically the same engine.... :Shamefullyembarrased:. Its used by most Ducati dealers now and you will know if you have it in your engine as it is dayglow yellow/green.

749 and 999 are both 10W40 and you can get it from your Ducati dealer or ebay/internet etc. Best buying from reputable sellers etc as normal.

Expect to be paying just over 50 quid for 4l but its worth it and after trying it I wont be using anything else.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  17. Are you sure you dont mean 300v ?

  18. Hahaha, yeah I do

  19. Hi, can anyone confirm whether or not, the oil screen filter on the 749r (deep sump) just pulls out or do i need to unscrew it? Thanks.

  20. Don't know about the R, but on my S you unscrew it with a 14mm Allen key, or socket and the whole assembly just pulls out.
