Cheap Chinese Intercoms - Anybody Got Experience Of Them?

Discussion in 'Clothing, Gadgets & Equipment' started by efcbluepete, Jul 11, 2017.

  1. I know that some will chip in with "pay cheap, pay twice", but given most electronic stuff is made in China these days, what is there to stop decent stuff coming out of China cheaply (e.g. the Apeman camera is a decent camera, just the clamping part of the bracket arrangment doesn't have enough friction to hold the cameral upright).

Has anybody tried any of the £50-60 jobs off ebay? just looking for rider-pillion, and maybe bluetooth the phone for Waze or similar.

  2. I got a Vrider 6 way second hand off Fleabay, to be fair we don't do much miles but its good to hear the rev limiter (Her) on the back telling you to slow down.
There not too bad IMO, battery life they reckon is 3 days and the Bluetooth's good for my IPod or phone Just make sure that the speakers fit your helmet as I got mugged off from J&S telling me that they'd easily fit the 350.00 helmet they had just sold me ,,,,they didn't and was a bitch to manipulate into a comfy part of the lid.

  4. Yes. I bought a pair for myself and a mate to use over the week of WDW2014.
Although he already had a headset (Scala Rider iirc?) it was still cheaper to buy a new pair at £50 delivered than it was to buy a second-hand headset to match his (at over £150).

Once setup they worked really well and were usable upto 80mph and over quite big distances. We ride together anyway so never really had a problem with it.

Having used them for that week and pairing it with my phone to listen to music, I realised that I actually quite liked having music on in the background and so kept it in and used it every day to listen to music on my daily commute. The battery still works well after 3 years of nearly daily use.

I bought a new helmet and instead of transferring the speakers/mic, I bought a replacement set at just under a tenner delivered and fitted it to the new helmet. It can be fiddly but is well worth it and I always go for the wired mic, not the "boom" mic on the stiff arm as it's easier to fit into a full-face/sports helmet. I also have a headset in my Tour-X helmet so I can simply swap the unit into the helmet I'm using. It's affixed using the sticky velcro mount rather than the clamp mount it came with. I found this better than the clamp, but the box comes with both so you can try and see what you prefer, or what fits your helmet better.

So after 3 years I think it's been fantastic value for money and they work a treat, and works just like a headset on my iPhone so I can get directions through Google Maps, it also works with Siri and I can change tracks and so on!

  5. Forgot to add, my mate went on a tour of Europe recently and managed to pair his with his Sony Xperian phone AND his Garmin Zumo SatNav on his Multi, so he was listening to music and getting SatNav instructions at the same time! I thought that was really clever!

  6. Been very pleased with my bluetooth headset thing ( complete with FM radio) cost £29.99 had it for about 2 years still worked perfectly but the red charge neon , indicating that the internal battery had been fully charged when put on charge failed.
Contacted company, they sent a complete new unit which is very handy as the original only failed to display the red charging neon, so leave that one in India where I keep a bike.
I think it's the same unit that Bradders had.
I could listen to music and hear my satnav and take a phone call and choose FM radio, and link with another bluetooth headset, bloody marvelous, just as good as expensive one's imo.

this is the one I bought ( single ) just realized it's the same as antoyne's one above!

  7. Yep that's what I had. Interesting point about wired mic, one to look into :)

  8. I use one purely to receive calls and listen to music. Have had no issues with it so far. Quality isn't top notch, as expected, but for the price, can you really complain? One thing I really dislike about mine is the inability to skip tracks. I'm planning on ordering the same one as Antonye.
