Check your pannier pins - mine burst open on the move (photo)

  1. When I got home from a ride on the weekend, my offside pannier was open at the front and middle and luckily the rear catch had stayed connected saving the contents (even though the middle fastner was locked). It turns out that the pin holding the front catch has worked loose, and when travelling has allowed the pannier to open and with assitiance of the passing wind.

I am fortunate that no damage has occured and the pin has gone back in. Strangely there seems to still be good friction on the pin so I am baffled at how it has worked itself loose in the first place, has this happended to anyone else?

  2. The side catches were a recall item (water ingress) and the top central lock should be more than adequate to hold them shut, leave the kitchen sink at home next time:smile:

  3. Good catch, (excuse the pun) one doesn't want ones pants strewn across the Queens highway!
