1199 ABS with 1800kms on clock. Leaking engine oil from both head gaskets. Not a lot just few drops. Tightened the 2 rear cylinders bolts and half a turn loose. Front also must be leaking as I can see oil under the battery. Worth checking them out. P. Ps bike revved to the limit and leaks when engine is 'pressed'.
A couple of threads on this on American 1199 sites, also found that torquing up the bolts cured this oil weeping. Thanks for the heads up.
interesting stuff - warned a bloke on a 100 mile old Multistrada about a similar small weep from front head while parked recently and had taken a guess that the reason was just as you describe.
I think its 10Nm. Still leaking. I now have to take the bike to the dealer and change the headgaskets..Nice..
Sorry to hear that, not good. 10 Nm is very low for cylinder head, the pistons would be in the petrol tank before you got to the end of the driveway. Only 2 to tighten, I take it's the rocker cover. At least it's an easier fix
Not sure to be honest. Top part of the cylinder with the magnesium (? Golden color) cover on top. I think its 4 bolts though. The bolts torque I may be wrong however you tighten upto a certain point and they stop.. Logically you remove tank seat to reach the rear cylinder. Front may be more work.
Yeah that's the rocker cover, not as critical as the head itself. Still a pain for you though, not what you need from your new steed. Hope it works out ok for you.
