1200 Chinese brake & clutch anodised alloy reservoir caps?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by AndyW, Apr 11, 2014.

  1. Anybody used these? The front brake master cylinder cap design looks ok but the two smaller screw caps for the clutch and rear brake reservoirs don't have the slots cut vertically up through the threads to allow air in and out (brake fluid expanding/contracting with heat/cooling and fluid level drop over time with brake pad wear) - surely that's a problem?

Just curious as I don't intend to use them now anyway!...........I got them in red and tbh they're too bling for my conservative tastes anyway lol

  2. Out of interest, how much were they?

I saw a set of Oberons for circa £50. Colour is JRG though.

  3. £18.99! .......including shipping :-O

  4. Don't get me started on Ching Chong Bling, just goes to prove how the likes of Oberon have people's trousers down. Their probably made in the same factory in China where Oberon source theirs from but a third of the price.

  5. I have only bought one red anodised item from China before and TBH they were more pink than red when i got them, so buyer beware.

Quite how anyone can make that set for £19 and then send it halfway across the world is beyond me...unless they cut corners or pay silly low wages.

  6. How can you cut corners with a cnc process? Agree they probably pay what we would consider as low wages but as most of the higher priced items by recognised names is made in China I can't see any reason not to buy it on that basis.
I've had several sets of Ching Chong Bling and as said, it's been as good quality as the rest of them

  7. Can you put a link up for them Andy as I think they'll look good in black, got to be better than the plastic caps fitted as standard.

  8. Chinese wages are now sky high. We used to be able to get serious degree guys (electronics) for $30 per month plus food and lodgings. Nowadays you can't even get a cleaner for that.

  9. How do they cut corners? No health and safety regs, no workers rights, no paid holiday, no taxes paid....numerous ways really.

....not sure I would recommend them in view of the lack of the ventilation slots in the screw caps - whilst nobody has answered my question in my original post I feel this could be an issue that may even in certain circumstances affect braking performance?
As to quality, at the price no complaints but definitely not up to the standards of brand name CNC offerings in billet machined items and I bet the aluminium is the lowest spec. The machining of the threads is not brilliant (no problem with such a course/open thread....and an item that's not regularly undone/done up) and the anodising does look 'thin'.

Worth a word (phone if you don't see what you want in their ebay shop) with these guys, selling off their Oberon stock at decent prices:

  11. most of cheap anodised MIC = Made In China alloy parts have the colour fading quickly due to sun exposure, nuff said'

  12. I doubt very much if the coarse thread in the caps will provide an airtight seal so even without the slots they'll probably work fine. If you are concerned it's only 5 minutes a with a dremel to cut them.

  13. Looks like you might be right Derek, Oberon agree any way.......their clutch/rear brake reservoir caps also have a continuous thread :D
