749 Choke / Cold Start Cable Removale

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Spjallen, Dec 16, 2014.

  1. Hi guys. Advice time again please before I end up going to the workshop manual - again!
i'm looking to remove the choke cable and I'd like to reduce the switchgear on the left hand bar - the bikes a race bike.

First question is how easy is it to remove and how to please.

Second is, do I loose any functionality if I take the associated switchgear off? I'm thinking access to functions and menus in the dash. Any help greatly received

  2. There's no function loss on the 749/999. It's just lights horn and indicators. The cable is easy to get out of the switchgear but to remove it at the throttles, you'll need to pull the airbox out, split it and disconnect the cable inside.

  3. That's what I thought. Never an easy job!! Thank you.

  4. Done. Hope I don't have to do that again. Getting the airbox out isn't the easiest job. Any tips for next time fellas?

  8. I thought about doing that - but couldn't live with myself knowing I'd not completed the job!! OCD or what. Still, done now. Next thread from me will be, bike not starting, no cold start?!!

  9. make sure the fast idle plate isn't left in the "fast" position

  10. Great advice. Thought of that as I was doing it. Wasn't in the plan initially though, could have been fun, thank you for the reminder Andy.

  11. Well started it up today and it was workable. Tbh it needed the cold start but it soon settled. Quite happy that it just fired up after all the things I done to it!! Thank you to all of you that helped with this thread.
