998 Clamp For Sealed Battery Yt12b-bs

  1. My 998s has been in storage for 9yrs. Just (with a heck of a lot of preparation) got it started!

Yuasa now sells the YT12B-BS for this bike (the same as my Hypermotard 1100S), and it works great. The only thing is, the old clamp doesn't seem to fit this the same as the old "wet cell" battery.

Does anyone know of a replacement (other than tie wraps!).

    Cheers, everyone.

  2. Just cut the tab off at the back of the retaining plate and when you mount it push the battery and plate into the battery box whilst doing up the screw. Good batteries, I have got over 7 years out of one on my 748.

Have you checked your yellow wire connector plug?

  3. Will try that, mate. Thank you.

My "yellow wire connector plug"? You said that as if it's something I SHOULD know about!

  4. That plug with the three pins is the source of most of the bikes reliability problems and electrical issues. These include battery related break downs (over or under charging) and alternator stator burn outs, all due to poor contacts causing the regulator/rectifier to overheat. If any of the contacts are dirty the high resistance generates heat and more resistance and even more heat. The usual resulting failure is the regulator/rectifier which is a 80-120 quid component. It has even been cited for setting a few bikes alight. Leave it to overheat and a break down is pretty much guaranteed

  5. I'll be cleaning that tomorrow, then!

Thanks for the guidance - much appreciated!
