I don't call 11 vendors from 26 having kit removed from sale or confiscated, a small number, it's nearly half (42%). I'm flabbergasted and disappointed there seemed to be no trading standards action at the NEC. Andy
While I am delighted action was taken at the London show I wouldn’t mind a name and shame…. I would very much think those companies websites are still active and selling .
Trading Standards clearly need to do more. If back protectors. armour jackets, gloves and bike jeans are being passed off as offering protection they should do exactly that. A normalised test regimen needs to be put in place and publicised so that buyers realise what it all means, and what benefits they will get from buying this gear. Then there are no doubt fake versions of branded gear which also new to be stopped. Having said all that, many bikers don't really seem too concerned. In reality, in a crash at 60+mph how much protection will any of this gear actually give? I have not done any research but I have my doubts... How many riders choose a Belstaff jacket which may protect you from the rain but very little else. How many would not wear a helmet given the chance?
