999 Classic Insurance

  1. dear fellow petrol heads. I’ve got a nice 999. 2003 model. 9 years NCB and it’s coming in at £300 TPFT garaged in SW19. With 500 excess. Is this a good deal. Can I get classic/cherished bike insurance. I do a few K miles a year on it. All suggestion welcome. Thanks

  2. I managed to get £333 fully comp including RAC euro breakdown with Devitts (2006 999 and a dirt bike), which was about the best deal I could find in January. I am Sussex area and the bike is garaged. Not sure what loading applies for London coverage these day.

  3. I have just renewed my insurance - £580 for a 1996 916SP3 (£180) and a 2016 MTS1200S (£400). This was a £50 increase on last year. The old bike doesn't qualify for classic yet (unlike me...!) but not a bad price.

However, during the renewal conversation I was asked for my license details which I provided. My license is clean and the details the insurer has are correct. Once they had my license number the renewal went up a further £130 which they could not explain, but suggested that I had made a 'mistake' when declaring points. I had not, and the DVLA site confirmed this. After a slightly cross conversation the original renewal price was honoured. The suggestion in the media is that insurance costs should come down as the license check ensures that points are openly declared - this was not my experience. It's a jungle out there... :)
