I'm sure this must have been discussed before but here goes .... A few weeks ago the right turn indicator warning light was glowing when switched off .... This was after the winter recess. it also had EXVV fault showing but that cleared after a couple of starts so not too worried as it was probably mechanically stuck and not an electronic issue. I have the bike booked for a clock swap next week but just like going to the doctors the symptom has disappeared. My dilemma is ..... • Do I still have the clocks changed out.... Odometer reset to zero • Will the dealer still change them out... As no fault showing • Wait until near the end of the warranty (6 months left) see if the fault re appears • Enquire about extended warranty • Take an £800 gamble • Purchase a bucket of sand and stick me head in it • Go with my passion and instinct and just ride the F¥€{#>g thing Any advice apreciated
I'm certain the fault will re-appear I would get it changed, and get the dealer to record the change in the service book Dealers know its a known fault so I can't see them not changing it even if the fault isn't current Then ride, ride n ride!!!
Is the fault shown really minor? This glowing of the Neutral LED is almost definitely due to a very small amount of corrosion between two pins on a connector or chip. I would suggest that the board has not been sealed with a protective coating. Unless they have changed the process it could occur again. Has anyone had these clocks apart and repaired the fault? Mine has the “fault” and I’m really not worried about it. I can tell the difference between a glow and the actual neutral selected. To me it’s like having one of the dashboard or control back illumination failed on a car. Slightly annoying, but I can still drive safely.
If the problem came up when the bike was out of warranty I'd either ignore it or have the unit apart to try and find the problem but while the bikes's still covered I'd just throw it back and say fix it. Give it another year and there'll be enough bikes out of warranty for someone to try and fix it then all we can hope for is that they take a load of photos and post a 'how to' guide.
On the old multi if you had glowing indicator/idiot lights that would be an indication that moisture had got in and you had condensation on the circuit board....which leads to corrosion and ultimately a dead bike. sounds like Ducati have not yet perfected the waterproof instrument panel......get it changed.....cover it in the rain
I'm not too fussed about the potential for rain getting in, I've had a KTM 690 where you could hear the water sloshing around in the instrument binnacle if you took it off the bike and shook it Bikes obviously shouldn't go out once the clocks have gone back or if there's a cloud in the sky.
My new one did this. I had the clocks changed and it is cured. The dealer said that they know about an inherent fault and the replacement is modified for the fix. I'd get the job done whilst you can. Oh, and it had never got wet before the mystery glow appeared!
If you register the fault with your dealer prior to the warranty expired date Ducati should change it free of charge as it is a recorded fault.
