1098 Clutch Advice Pressure Plate/springs

  1. Hi guys , yet again I'm looking for some advice regarding the clutch on my 07 1098

The bike is standard with 10,000 miles and the clutch seems even more noisy than it should be (obviously the noise goes away completely when the clutch is pulled in).

I removed the cover and the basket has some grooves on the edges and there seems to be quite a bit of clearance between the clutch plate and the basket as you can grab the pressure plate by Hand and rock it quite a bit from side to side between the tabs on the basket which I understand the tolerance is 0.5 mm which I've not measured on mine yet but mine seems more than that .

Also the clutch does let out a squeal type noise when picking away

So long story short , I've ordered a clutch locking tool and will be replacing the basket and plates with stock ducati items as these seem to be well worn.

Since Ive got it in bits then I was going to put a aftermarket pressure plate, collars and springs with an open clutch cover but after using the search function , it seems it is difficult to get aftermarket springs and collars which just need torqued up and work without a bit of messing around.

So can anyone recommend any manufacturers combos of pressure plate, collars and springs that can bolt straight on and work ?
Avanti racing and Oberon springs/collars seem to be working ok for a lot of people.

Failing that would it just be easier to get a genuine Ducati performance pressure plate and use the standard springs and collars and just live with the fact the won't look as nice.

Also what's the best locative to use for the clutch basket bolts ?

    Any help would be excellent

    Thanks

  2. The DP pressure plate and springs are proper pricy. My vote is for Oberon as they make some quality kit, but whatever you get, probably best to get spring etc from the same manufacturer. Once lined up, its all golden :)
I put a full Barnett clutch system into my bike, but as the clutch pack was a lot thinner than standard, when I replaced it with the proper Ducati stack in was almost too tall. If you can, I would also recommend a reinforced basket, otherwise you'll be replacing the basket in no time

  3. I purchased a set of springs & caps of evilbay ;) few years back to go with a 2nd hand Oberon plate I had purchased.. Worked a treat for me, was a simple whip off & whip on new items. Fitting most type of springs you find on the next shouldn't be a problem.. Pretty sure of that..

  4. I've got a pressure plate and springs from giamoto. Really good quality and nice guy to deal with.

  5. I just use bog standard loctite that you can buy from halfords for all my fasteners, inc the clutch ones. I bought an STM clutch pack, only because my clutch is STM. The key is getting the pack height correct. The convex clutch plates are the ones that help with the squealing noise. These are about £6 each from JHP. (i have 2 in my clutch) I think the max height is 38mm and lowest 36.5mm. Its so easy to play with clutch plates and heights. If noise and rattles annoy you, opt for a 48t basket. Theyre better. I have them on my bikes as I dont like the bag of spanners sound, it masks other sounds i might want to listen out for. I use stainless springs and collars from ebay. Cheap and no issues. EVR make nice pressure plates as do many others.

  6. Thanks for the replys

Evr seem to have some good prices on 48t basket and plate kits from speedycom.co.uk

Does anyone recommend any other 48t kits and do they wear a lot better than the stock baskets ?

    Cheers
