  1. Hi folks hope someone can help, was out on my 749s today up and down to work, bike rode perfectly, then went out tonight rode about 30 miles, parked up for a while , about an hr came back started bike clutch lever felt strange started going light, gears really hard to engage, rode home 30 miles gear box changing up gears ok as i didn't use clutch, eventually got home check clutch fluid reservoir found it low topped up clutch fluid, clutch lever still feels far to light ,gears not selecting correctly. Haven't bled clutch at all as it was ok to start with, any one got any idea what may be wrong. All help appreciated thanks. David.

  2. Sounds like air/fluid leak to me.

  3. cant see any sign of a fluid leak Nelson, that said i think i will take all the fairings off and have a real good look in the clutch area as well as the clutch line its self. Give clutch a good bleeding.

  4. It's air in the clutch bleed the clutch they prone to it have do mine every thousand miles as a quick fix if you pump the clutch lever for a minute or two it will help but really needs bleeding

  5. Master cylinder on its way out or if your lucky it's the slave cylinder(less expensive) it will only get worse no matter how many times you bleed it.

  6. Mine was doing similar recently. It was the M/C sucking air in.
    Had to keep bleeding it.

  7. Guys thanks for all of your comments much appreciated, bled clutch this morning clutch nearly back to normal, checking out slave cylinder at present, was talking to a local bike mechanic at home, he was telling me seals go in slave cylinder & you can get a seal kit for it will try that before i go for the master cylinder, typical Ducati slightly temperamental dare I say that, I suppose that is part of owning something beautiful from Italy. lol thanks again. David.

  8. You may be better off buying an after market slave. Oberon make a good one which has a bearing allowing the clutch rod to spin which can damage the seals.

  9. Always found that the slave seals fail before the master cylinder and temperamental operation is first sign as the engine heat compounds the problem. When you strip it out you will almost certainly find that that is where the fluid has been leaking from but it's often disguised as luckily it mingles with all the chain grease and oil present instead of stripping crankcase paint etc.

  10. 749 will have late 'star' slave. Dont think theyre rebuildable.
Bleed from inside master cylinder reservoir to get air out of top of line. Or back fill system with syringe/pipe from slave nipple.
