Following a low side on a trackday, i have learnt the hard way and decided to some use protection. I have been looking at the rizoma set online and it doesnt look like it protects much. It could be that the image doesnt show it protruding as much. It also looks like Aruba Ducati use something similar so i guess it must be good?!? I just really wanted some feed back on them as i can seem to find any reviews... Failing that i may get the GB Racing Protectors.. Rizoma https://www.motovationusa.com/images/product/WEB_OPER0214BPANIG12045.jpg_3_1.jpeg GB Racing http://www.899panigale.org/forum/at...bg-racing-case-covers-questions-_dsc1158.jpeg
Ive put the GB on mine, but (fingers crossed) I don't use it. Its looks and feels pretty solid stuff and I preferred their aesthetics to R&G or that wee carbon A cup you can buy.
I have the rizoma ones fitted on my 899. If I wanted track day protection I'd go the GB Rizoma protrudes enough to provide certain protection. Going by the off I had at Donington on my aprilia I was surprised at where stones, gravel and soil could get.
I crashed last year with GB racing covers on, zero damage to motor housings. I strongly recommend using them if you are going on track ( or road) did your Steering stops on the lower fork clamp survive?? mine didn't so a set of R&G protectors seems to be the way ahead as well....
Thanks for all the feedback. I’ve decided to go for the GB Racing Covers. They are cheaper too! @Nathanhu im not sure what you mean but there wasn’t any damage near the forks. here is a picture of the damage
There are two rather delicate lock stops on the lower fork triple clamp. Often during low-sides the bars hit the relevant stop hard-enough to snap it off. R&G make some protectors that prevent this from happening. If your bars still move the same distance from full left to full right then your lock stops are probably ok. Judging from your picture your bike didn't touch down very hard.
The lockstops from R&G protect the whimsical lockstops from snapping once you drop your bike as its like cheese. https://www.rg-racing.com/browsetype/Lockstop_Savers/Ducati/1299_Panigale/ The fork ones too, you were lucky but its very easy to graze the bottom of the fork lower during an off. The axle slider on front too helps protects this. I would also cosider a swingarm cover to protect grazing that too.
As above, R&G lockstops Then billet on both sides - woodcraft billet complete replacement clutch cover with replaceable billet puck and lightech billet alternator cover (covers the bottom half). GB will do the job as well, just decided to go belt/braces after having crashed and seen the carbon clutch cover literally ripped off, leaving pathetic pieces of carbon still held in place by the bolts. Useless. Those magnesium covers are like butter and was bad enough in my crash when my clutch cover went through but it’s the alternator that’s big money if it goes through. Those windings just the other side of the cover are big money to replace.
I see your tank and tail piece took some scuffs too. Those are the only 2 bits Ive got left to sort out. Some satin carbon covers for those too.
+1 but consider the longer tank protectors. The short R&Gs, while stopping major impact damage, didn’t quite do enough to completely protect the tank I.e not long enough and, it got ripped off. Perhaps that’s down to the amount of mastic that can be used due to the relatively small size of the protector. The longer carbon/Kevlar protectors available may offer more protection along the actual tank side edge & stay on!
