1199 Clutch Feel

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by gazjekyll, Jul 27, 2014.

  1. I'm having a recurring problem with my clutch, I find myself having to bleed the air out of it on my return from every ride. When I go out the lever feels it has good travel before the biting point but as the run goes on it seems to be getting closer to the bar and I also find it becomes more difficult to engage neutral. The bike is 10 months old and has now covered 4993 miles, the brake fluid has been change frequently, I did ask my dealer to change the fluid at the first service as it had gone very dark almost tea like in colour. I have changed the fluid approximately every 1500 miles using a fresh bottle of Mobil brake fluid every time. I did a run today of about 70 miles and by the time I got home the clutch had done it again, I bled the clutch at both the slave and bars and its got a good feel again. Does anyone have any idea what the cause of the problem could be?
The bike is still under warranty and I will likely have the dealer look at it but its 250 miles round trip if something simple.

  2. 250 mile round trip, where do you live! Is that the nearest dealer or just the one you purchased from as I'm sure you can take it to any?

  3. I stay in Aberdeen and Glasgow is the local dealer 248 miles door to door.

  4. Same thing happened to me while touring - Going down the Stelvio pass with no clutch wasn't fun! I got away with bleeding it as the fluid had been in there a while but if it is pretty fresh it could be a leaking slave cylinder??

  5. Thanks for the reply.I will drop Ducati Glasgow an email explaining the problem, you could be right.

  6. My multi has started doing the same, so bled it from the mc tonight, see how that goes

  7. I was told by the dealer that the colour of the brake fluid will go very dark and not to worry about it,. My front brake fluid had gone very dark, so far I have had no problems, longest run I gave done is probably 120 miles. I don't recall if that was the same for the clutch.

After bleeding have you left it over night with the lever cable tied back to the handlebar ? I have read this allows trapped bubbles to make their way up to the reservoir.

  8. The dealer told me the same the colour seems to get darker on the clutch and rear brake as they get the heat from the engine and the exhaust. Yes I use a tie wrap to keep the lever at the handle bar.

  12. tell me a bit more about it please? ive no idea how to do it?

  13. Theres a knob at the front (cue the jokes about the one behind too ;) ) which turns and adjusts the lever in or out, ie closer or farther from the bar

  14. the knob at the back is better for feel ,:Arghh:
