Out for a thrash it became more and more apparent that my clutch was on the way out to the point it was dragging, got home, no fluid, but no trace of fluid anywhere either, I know the master cylinder was full. So its still on the original slave and master cylinder so I am guessing that the slave seal has gone. That will be an oberon for me then.
I'm hoping mines ok, only get the slave for the 750's with dry clutch from Ducati and last time I asked it was over £100.
No trace of fluid anywhere? Have a good think about this............ Dry Clutch?............cover off, has the fluid run along the push rod and into the clutch?.............Probably not. Is it running down from the slave and onto the chain??......Possibly So, where has it gone? I don't think it can actually get into your engine oil. Are you sure it isn't still in the MC reservoir and its the MC seals that have gone, so it can't actually pump or apply pressure. AL
Al, I knew you would have the answer, you are the sensii, . Will look at it this weekend, The mc was full, did fluids earlier this year and bled the system, it is now for all intents empty, it quickly got progressively worse with a biting point that got shorter and shorter to the point that the pushrod (I assume wasn't actuating) and the clutch was dragging when you attempted to engage clutch/dis engage gearbox. No trace on initial inspection of any fluid but will have a better look, have also noticed that I now have a weep from the area of the rear head gasket
so master cylinder is empty now? - when slave seal fails on pushrod-thru-engine type, the fluid dribbles into what is already a usually black, oily area and so the leak is almost undetectable until you look closer.
Early slaves have replaceable lipped seal. Should be still available, if not I have a brand new one spare somewhere as I've upgraded to later star slaves on both my 2 valvers. The later 'star' SC's are bolt on and an improvement(but not rebuildable). But you will need a longer push rod or an extension piece(I cut a bit off an old rod).
Went to Gtec and they advised using a used 1098 slave (which they kindly supplied for £10 as new). Now however my lower cylinder feckin exhaust studs and bolts appear to have been eaten by a rust monster grrr. Delaying my winter strip (Nuts aren't even 13mm anymore and just bare a passing resemblance to a half eaten dark toffee)
^ what Chris says. Happened to mine like this. Hidden amongst the chain loob detritis by the sprocket.
