Hi All, Just back from a week in Germany ( boiling hot, 34c at one stage! ) towards the end of the week I started getting a problem with the clutch master cylinder ( I think? ) you could pull the lever in at a junction and within 5 seconds or so, the pressure would go from the lever and the bike would start moving itself even though the lever was still held in, clutch would be fully engaged and bike moving even though I still had the lever held against the bar, got interesting at times! Pretty sure it’s the clutch master cylinder, as the slave is not leaking and I’m loosing no fluid, even tried bleeding it but no better Anyhow, where can I get a replacement seal kit for the Brembo clutch master cylinder on the 899? Anyone had the same and done this already?? Thanks in advance for any help
Definitely the master cylinder. Be thankful its the clutch and not the brake; I have recently read an interesting thread on the Aprilia forum where the brake master on a brand new RSV displayed this symptom. The master was replaced under warranty and the old one inspected. The inside of the bore was scored which gave the seal a hard time. If you applied the brake hard the pressure forced the seal into the score and it worked, but if you applied it slowly fluid leaked past the seal around the score mark and the lever went back to the bar. Apparently it made for a very interesting first ride and a change of underpants was required! I am on my second clutch master cylinder, though for me the problem has been air getting into the system requiring regular bleeding rather than fluid leaking past the seal. @nelly said when he changed my original one that the OEM units are not very good. I shall get an after-market Brembo unit when the current one starts pissing me off too much.
