Evening guys Hope your all enjoying the glorious weather we seem to be having . Anyway I'll get to the point.... History. My 999 has never been the best at starting in the cold but she has also been a faithful work horse over the last two years wind rain or shine and only being garages for December. Last week she had a starting issue at j&s Chester but I put it down to bad fuel / hot ride / etc etc She fired up soon enough but once home decided to not play at all. I waited and tried again only to be met by a clunk clunk stop from the clutch. This happened repeatedly so I stuck her on charge. Came to her again today and same clunk but clutch plate still spinning. Then the dreaded whirring noise and no spin. She's due for a full service this week but before I crack on I want to make sure she runs. Is this the dreaded sprag issue ?? Or is this a common problem for a dying battery . She has done 24k but I've never had this issue before . Clutch plate fails to spin repeatedly just a horrible whiting noise now. Any advice welcome. I'm by no means a mechanic but can happily do service etc. is the sprag an easy fix and rough costs associated would be welcome. Ps any knowledgeable 999/749 owners in Cheshire that I can badger for advice would be rewarded with beverage of their choice I'm sure . Help ! Andy
In addition . She is sitting at 12.5v when plugged in to optimiser. Forgive my mechanical issues I'm a rider first and just learning to solve the technical issues Andy
Cheers buddy. Sounds like it doesn't it. I guess it's just one of those things. I'm happy to do it it myself if it's a relatively easy job. Now to find a sprag online ! Cheers buddy
I have decent tools but a whopping torque wrench , hmmmm maybe not that big . May have to bite the bullet and get a mechanic in . Sound advice though buddy. As always appreciate all the advice and guidance . Ktm parts hmmmm I'll have to see if ta a job I can handle first . Cheers
Update. I've ordered new battery . New clutch plates and sourcing a sprag. Is there anything else inside their that is likely to need a change ? I haven't got time to rip her to pieces until wed so thinking ahead. In addition does anyone no of a Haynes step by step guide that may be out there. I've found one for the Deano engine but trying to source a testastretta guide is beating me at the min. As always thanks for your help guys. Limited on time before heading back out to the desert so really want to get her up and running before I leave her for a month of no tlc Regards Andy
