999 Clutch Parts ??

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by The iron Duke, Apr 16, 2015.

  1. Hey gents. I seem to be spending my entire day on here today. No bad thing . Very humbled by the effort and knowledge given to me recently dealing with the red head.

Any way as posted I've hit the dreaded time to replace the sprag and ancillaries they may have been chewed up. I plan to strip her down tomorrow and see the damage but in the mean time, does anyone know a parts store that is reliable and posts out. I've seen plenty on eBay however they are all states side.

I'm hoping for just the replacement clutch but likely damage to gear etc so would like to buy as a job Lot to save time ideally and effort. (Is it recommended to change associated parts as a matter of course)

In addition has anyone come across any major issues pit falls that I need to be aware of. I've been around triples before but this is the first time cracking the infamous testatretta!!!

Tooling is sorted! Just a any recommendations for parts etc

Looks like she'll be getting a second major service as I didn't realise until reading manual you have to drop the fluids

    Regards

    Andy

  2. Have a look at Star Twin Andy. They are based in Holland but very quick delivery.

Other hand that I have always used eBay.

  3. Legend pal. Cheers for the info. Time to get my hands dirty .

  4. Been reading the workshop manual before cracking the casings. Can you replace the sprag just through the clutch side and remove engine clutch Plates, basket and housing to get to fly wheel. Am I right in thinking the sprag is inside the flywheel.
I'm sat in work reading the workshop manual but cannot fathom if I'm heading in from just clutch.

I'm new to the interior of the big v twin and although it would be easier to send her to workshop I'm keen. To know the innerds of the bike.

There are plenty of build threads on you tube for the Deano engine but very little with video or pictures on testastretta 999 lump.

A little positive direction would be appreciated from someone who has actually done this replacement.

  5. I was going to attempt mine myself but was warned off it as you have to get to one bolt from the other side. The description i was given sounded tricky.

Someone with more knowledge of it than me will advise better.

  6. Ahhh cheers buddy. Im in work so trying to figure it out off the manual. I'm happy with working in the engine and alike but. Manual isn't the clearest . It all seem relatively simple once you have cracked the torqued but on clutch basket side however I'm just like you and would like some first hand experience And advice on hand For something that's critical .

I'm looking at buying a whole new starter clutch gear assembly to be sure all parts are well fitting and marry up. I know it's pricey but negates having to go back in potentially later to fix something that could have been done first time around.

Any advice welcome. Does anyone have a link to a guide I can reference ? Would be handy

    Cheers lads

  7. I've been bending my melon around the manual . Seem a lot simpler that I thought. More tools and Torque setting specific. However I really can figure out where this bolt at the alternator side is amongst the disassembly and assembly procedure you mentioned Pavey.
    . Hmmmm confused !

Saturday in work , should be in the garage.

  8. Clutch is right hand (off) side, starter sprag flywheel etc is all left hand (near) side. This should all be fairly obvious from the manual, if not have you got the correct manual ? Pavey might have been talking about the starter motor, it is held on with 2 bolts on the outside of the engine case and a third one inside the case, once you remove the left cover it is hidden behind the drive gear this has holes in it so when you rotate it you can get at the bolt :)

  9. I'm a moron. Just checked I'm reading the bloody 2004 999r manual.

    I ride a 999 06 bip. Head up a** moment !

Cheers pal. 430am start doesn't make brain engage very well

  10. Cheers matey . Now sorted . After realising I was looking at it upside down , back to front and squinting !! It's been a long week
