Clutch plates

  1. I've got a set of Suzuki katana 650 plates, fitted them to my 2004 ST3. They fit more nicely, wonder how long they'll last, at £40 what's the worst that can happen?

  2. No one will buy them. Can't be worse than that.

  3. done at least 3000 miles on my 888 no bother!

  4. cheeers Steve. put it back together and clutch is much quieter, feels about the same - bargain!

  5. Bloody hell, good find! Noted.

  6. I apologise if this is a really stupid question, but.......

Katanas had wet clutches, so does that mean the plates can be cleaned with a light oil, to prevent them rusting?

  7. Not a stupid question at all, yes the plates are for a wet clutch.

There is another thread on this here http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f4/lighter-smoother-quieter-clutch-%A315-6560/ I can't claim to discovering these plates.

There seems to be a mixed response in fitting these plates. I've just removed mine and put the nosiy standard plates back because the clutch won't disengage once it warms up. Fine if you don't do heavy traffic, but I use mine for commuting around London.

I've not entirely given up, I've been wondering why it works for some and not others, could it be that when you fit brand new plates they won't disengage when hot, whereas those that have fitted pre used plates work fine. The packaging recommends that they are soaked in engine oil over-night before use. So that's what I'm going to try - soak them overnight clean off the excess oil and refit them. Worst that can happen is they still won't work so I'll have to degrease the clutch before refitting the standard plates.

If it works I shall call it a 'damp' clutch

    Cheers Mike
