Clutch slave cylinder

  1. I changed mine today as the clutch has always been very "grabby" when the bike is cold. Fook me what a difference. I reckon the clutch is now much lighter and smoother and the "grab" has gone. Probably the best mod I've ever done on this MTS :upyeah:

  2. I went through two of these in 12K miles on my 998S.

  3. The original really is a POS quality-wise in comparison to the replacement.

  4. More info please - there's a good chap.

  5. Is the new one from JHP in Coventry? They're supposed to be brilliant

  6. The stock one is dire, I could hardly pull mine clutch in on the way back from France... Slave cylinder knackered, swapped for a JHP slave and what a transformation

  7. I have a 2010 and had 2 standard slaves go in very dangerous ways. I have posted about this in another forum but if you are interested I can post some of the information here. To cut a long story short, the early standard slaves were poorly machined and many of them would fail in that the piston would "cock" in the core and judder, become sticky or jam. In my case it would jam on the release stroke and then suddenly release. Let the clutch out - no engagement - revs rise - WHAM! - clutch would grab and spear you up the road!!!! For some strange reason it happened in the wet when you really did not want this kind of behaviour

I gave up replacing shite with more shite and replaced it with the fancy, ergal DP unit. The first one failed a seal the first time it was bled. It was replaced under warranty after some argument about "it is for racing only and not for road use" and and it has been good so far. When I can be bothered, I will eventually replace this DP unit with a Yoyodyne.

I actually had to buy the DP slave for stoooopid warranty rules and I took it home and cut it up with a dremel. Here are pics of the scuff marks in the bore and on the piston. A bit hard to see in the bore but you can see the damaged piston:

    Summary:
    - some early slaves were bad. They are not made by Ducati but a subcontractor and KTM us the same supplier and had similar problems as well as bad seals (I know, I had problems with my previous 990 Adventure).
    - It seems Ducati upgraded the part and bikes from mid 2011 or 2012 seem to have no problems according to a few techs I have spoken to
    - The DP upgraded slave is junk and worthless bling
    - If you are concerned both Yoyodyne and Oberon get great reviews as being problem free and well priced. There are more costly ones also.

  8. I get a "sticky" clutch, but only when the weather is wet. It feels as if it is a cable clutch and the cable is frayed, jamming in the sleeve as you let the clutch out - generates an unpleasant judder in the lever. I thought it was the lever pivot needing lubricating!

May get this mod done myself, what sort of costs are we looking at?

199.99 pounds if you want the expensive one!
