  1. Hi toying with cleaning the clutch on my 749 and would like one of these to make life easier anyone recommend where to buy cheap

  2. They're used tobe a thread on how to make one out of an old clutch plate.... I've never needed one and had 916, 996, 999, 1198, 1098, never needed a clutch tool, clutches out on all, maybe I was doing it wrong ...

  3. I agree it’s probably doable with out but I am just learning and thought it would be a handy bit of kit

  4. There are other things to be wary off, such as making sure the plates go back in the right way round, iirc one has a dot stamped on it...
I've never needed the tool, not even sure what it's needed for, in my experience not needed for removing the plates, hopefully some of the sages on here can advise further

  5. I think it locks the basket so you can undo the big nut

  6. I got one like this free with a clutch basket. Screenshot_20240404-155723~2.png
It holds both the basket and the hub secure enough to do up the bolts and the big nut to spec without putting load through any other parts of the engine and box.

  7. That does the same and I may have to buy one of these instead, some nylon ones can strip when doing the big nut so I have heard.

  8. If you're basket or hub are worn out you need something to hold them.

  9. Plan is this weekend if I get chance is to look at my noisey clutch , to see what condition it’s in as I just got the bike

  10. Just read the first post properly, if you're just want to strip it to clean it you won't need any special tools. The baskets are a bit of a consumable and to change that you need some holding tool.

  11. Yes that’s how I am understand it
Its noisy by ducati standards i think ,
    so expecting worn basket
One other thing , with plates all out I should be able to run the bike up to check for any other noises shouldn’t , it’s safe to do so

  12. Never had to do that fortunately, thank you for reminding

  13. I’ve got two of those in my tool box: one very thick made of plastic (nylon?) which I have never used so far, and another one made of metal, much heavier in hand, strong, which I got when I ordered a new clutch kit (basket + hub) from Ducadisc. It’s the one I use every time I need to remove hub and basket. Super handy and easy to use! And it’s only 24€ + shipping. Good value, not « cheap ».

  16. I had one like that, first time I used it, it snapped like a carrot.

Best to use the old school long-handled metal versions IMO.
