Clutchless Gear Changes

  1. Clutch less gear changes , what’s the opinions , I’ve a gen 2 Mv f4 which I ride mostly and I’ve been experimenting with clutch less upward gear changes recently and they seem to be very smooth no clunking into gear or anything what’s people’s thoughts on them

  2. Up, great, down, sorry to much mechanical sympathy. But on an EXC, stuff the clutch :upyeah:

  3. Pretty much never use the clutch shifting up.

  4. I can’t recall the last time I used a clutch on upshifts, mostly not at all either way nowadays as my go to bike has QS & Blipper. :)

  5. It depends on the design of the gearbox and the number of dog teeth on the pinions.

More teeth and less space inbetween equates to potentially more wear, as the pinion will not always fall into engagement as readily as a pinion with less teeth and more space between the teeth. 17210053c.jpg 05220531.jpg The latter has more backlash though as there's more room for the pinion to move around once engaged.

    As ever it's a compromise.
