1200 Cold Start

  1. Morning folks, any suggestions as to why my ‘10 1200S runs poorly when cold. Once the stat comes off the stops it’s fine, but hesitates until then. Decat and reflashed.
    Thanks.

  2. I guess it depends on how poorly it runs.

It's a big twin and my 2011 isn't that happy until it's warmed up properly. So I'm careful and treat it gently until then.

    Mine has a decat too.

  3. When were the valve clearances last checked?

  4. Thanks for the input. I know what you mean about big twins, but it just doesn’t feel right. Hadn’t thought of the valves, how likely to affect?

  5. If they haven't been done, along with the belts, you'll be heading for trouble.
They should be done every 15k.

  6. Poor starting, although you haven't mentioned that, and poor cold running 'can' be a sign of out of spec valve clearances but there are also many other, easier, things to check first really, plugs probably being the first.

  7. Thanks again, belts and plugs done recently, to me it feels more of a sensor issue, it runs like a watch otherwise. Maybe plug leads are on the slide?

  8. The horizontal cylinder plug leads are known to breakdown but, this usually shows up in the wet/rain when arcing occurs and causes rough running.
