my '93 900ss will only run on one (rear) pot when starting from cold. Once the engine has reached a certain temp the front pot joins in. The time this takes is clearly related to how cold the engine has become. A quick stop-off for a cuppa is fine, but any longer and it's back to one again. Apart from this, the bike is running really well. I've started investigating and have found no spark on the front cylinder from cold (new plugs). I then noticed that the mounting bracket for one of the ignition coils (the left one) was noticeably hotter than the other, is this relevant? before I dig out the multi-tester etc. has anyone got any bright ideas? TIA Stu
I had a similar problem, particularly in cold or damp weather........... It seemed to clear after I had fitted a new tank breather valve (in place of a faulty new tank breather valve).........because I think the tank pressure was flooding the front carb......ie; whenever it wouldn't start, the front plug was always wet, even though there was spark present..........I also fitted NGK plugs and renewed the HT leads and caps. Use the multimeter check the coils resistance and the pick-ups resistance......I can't recall the coil figures, but the OEM pickups were 100 Ohms, so slightly under that should be OK.
