1299 Collected The Bike Today - Full Akrapovic - Baffles Or No Baffles?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by JJ1299SX, Feb 15, 2022.

  1. Collected the bike today from the dealership,

Just had a brand new akrapovic full system fitted all nice and shiny,

What are your thoughts on baffles vs no baffles? seems really loud even with the baffles in.

  2. Out. More pops and bangs. Not much more volume.

  5. The short answer is that top end is softened but midrange is unaffected. I prefer out

  8. Out, baffles make feck all difference. Dont lose them though, theyre expensive to replace from Akra.

Recommendation 1 - add throttle spacer
Recommendation 2 - add more heat deflection to that bit of akra heat shield. I DE Golded mine. In fact I DE Golded everywhere, inc inside plastic cyl covers, subframe, u/s of seat, u/s of rear of tank and prob a few more places I forgot. When it gets >26°C outside and youre in traffic, your crackers will vapourise.

  9. Lovely bike and system... Will you be using it on track?

  10. In regards to the throttle spacer, is it plug and play so to speak?? Seen kits on ebay for about £20 is that right?

Will check out the heat shield situation, seems a common complaint on these 1299s, thanks for that.

Will get the baffles out today and stick them in the loft with the standard system.

  11. Thank you, don't intend on tracking it, guess I kind of knew that when I had the full system installed, obnoxiously loud. It's a bit too nice to track with 3800 miles IMO, plan is to just use it on nice sunny days and keep it real tidy.

That said I bet they are a weapon on the track but I'm not farting about with the standard system any time soon.

  12. I'd have just stuck the Akra cans on, but I'm tight. Are you planning any suspension uprates?

  13. For me it was part of the criteria in owning one of these, didn't do it for the extra power more for the way the full system looks, standard heat shield and manifold pipes ruin the look IMO, expensive mod but if I keep it in good condition it should still provide a good return.

Suspension wise I don't plan on changing much, really depends how rigid it feels on the road.

I'm hoping to just have a setup by James at FTR suspension in Ely and crack on.

I have a set of 1198s wheels to go on which should improve the bike somewhat.

  14. @JJ1299SX throttle spacer, plug and play? Yes. Its an absolute doddle to fit. They even provide you with a screwdriver bit for the tri type screw head on the throttle housing. The spacer is a small triangular sleeve that fits over the throttle stop and removes any play. It makes the throttle feel more direct and easier to feather. Plus I think it stops any small engine stalling when at lights shenanigans personally, but thats moot and undoubtedly there will be a plethora of replies which disagree. :)

  15. The standard front forks aren't much good, and as for the 1198 S wheels, wouldn't it have been easier to just buy an 1299S to start with?

  16. Thanks again bootsam, on that basis I have ordered the kit off Ebay for £20, seems like a worthwhile mod and if I don't like it I can always change it back.

  17. I was under the impression they were good enough, the electronic suspension didn't interest me much and I'm not a fan of the "chicken feet" wheels hence my decision to go for the base model and upgrade it as needed, that and the fact trying to find a mint condition low mileage S model for less than 15k seemed challenging, most have been tracked and well used now.

I do prefer the look of the Marzocchi unit too, they look chunkier, they are the right gold and the black stanchions look perfect.
The bling gold of the ohlins is an acquired taste IMO.

I can't ever see me pushing on past the limits of the forks on the road personally, I may be wrong, again they can be modified at cost if needed.

  18. OK.

  19. The standard forks were known to have problems but easily fixed with a cartridge kit . I think the base bikes are great value for money and you can mod to your own liking
