996 Comfort Bars/risers

  1. Firstly let me say i am no spring chicken (62yrs almost) which might explain this request. I have a 996 trackbike but my old neck and back problems are preventing me from fully enjoying the experience on track P1010339.JPG due to the extreme 'head down/arse up' riding position. I am having problems seeing the track,or rather the part of the track i am aiming for after the turn. i thought it was just my Arai helmet catching on the collar of my leathers preventing me from lifting my head up high enough to see properly at turns but i am now thinking i could benefit from raising up the bars by changing the clip-ons or even some sort of bar/yoke conversion?

Is there a ready made solution out there?

    What do you think?

    ps.
My road bikes for the last 10 years have been 'touring style' and i am just back from a 3,000 miles trip wanging around the Pyrenees on my CRF1000l Africa Twin

  2. Give bike torque racing a call mate, they do wood craft clip ons sure they do a riser kit as well.

  3. Fast by Ferracci do bar risers, they used to just do the bar clamps themselves, which were decently priced but now they only offer the whole handlebar setup. Most bar risers raise the angle\height by 25mm or thereabouts but that does make a big difference.

I have bar risers on all my bikes and they make it a lot easier to ride and steer as I am quite tall and find the stock position too extreme for me.

  4. +1 for Fast by Ferracci as @Red998 mentions .... I've just fitted a pair to my 748 and the difference is night and day

  5. I too am that age. I haven't ridden my 748 for a long time but I have a 750 F4 which I find the seating position bars etc even more radical than the 748.
Every helmet I have had Shoei,x lite, schuberth snd AGV K5 all snagged on my leathers and pushed down on the brow forcing me to lift my head thus making the riding position even more uncomfortable
I now have an AGV pista and it has cured all that. My Leathers don't snag the back and the Visor aperture is massive giving excellent vision.
The problem is it might be cheaper to buy the bars but I do not believe they will make as big a difference as buying a helmet designed for the track and not the road

  6. Thanks, maybe i could gain some clearance by swopping lids?

Today i lowered the rear end by 1" by shortening the 'tie-rod' thingy as i have always thought it was jacked up too high at the rear end. i am waiting for some used bar risers to arrive (53mm) and will need to see if i can get the cables etc to fit without buying longer ones. i also have the potential problem of fouling the fairing with the higher bars but will just have to test and adapt to suit when i install them.

  7. I had some DP bar risers on my 998. I took them off a couple of weeks ago and put the std ones back on. Went out for a blast yesterday and TBH it didn't feel any different...

  8. Ducabike do bars with adjustable angle. Makes enough difference to make it worthwhile.

  9. I have Cyclecat adjustable bars although you can't raise much more than 25mm anyway as they will foul the fairing and the angle is also adjustable but the biggest benefit for me is that the actual bars are longer and sitting with my arms more apart is not only more comfortable but also makes everything easier IMO.

I did have to get a longer throttle cable though, I found that the cable from an ST4 (IIRC) is perfect, being the same design but around 2" longer.

  10. Also had the cyclecat risers, nice bit of kit and well made, Like said you are limited with the height you can raise them but there fully adjustable as well as bar angle, made a massive difference.
