I sat on an 1098 and a 999 recently. People told me the 999 is the comfiest bike. I only say on them on a drive but I disagreed with the owner, who is about the same height as me at 6' 2". Is the 848 1098 comfy for owners? I have an SS IE which is also suppose to be less comfy than the carby SS. Again I disagree. I think the IE is comfier!
Same with my Supersport. Got used to it. Thing is the owner owned both and said the 999 was a better bike for long distances. I was sure the 848 was roomier
Never been on a 999 myself. Went from 848 to KTM 990 SMR (much more comfortable) to a Multistrada. All the kicks with none of the pain. I'm now completely sold on supermoto style bikes now. More usable fun!
Personally found the 848 lovely in terms of seating and leg position for my 6ft frame, but horrible on the wrists and shoulders, possibly heli bars would have made it totally fine but not so sure. The 999 is adjustable though isn't it? Maybe that's why people say it's more comfortable
I used to have a 749s with the adjustable foot pegs. I have a 1000ss ie and a 1098S. It's true to say non of these bikes are overly comfortable when you're tall. At 6ft4 I can definitely say the 1098 is more comfortable than the 749S even with the pegs adjusted and the 1000ssie as you feel quite hunched up these bikes. The 1000ssie is slightly more comfortable than the 749S in my opinion. Hope this sheds a bit of light in the matter.
When I first rode my 848 Evo it was pretty bad on the wrists, when riding slow. I was sliding forward all the time making it even worse. The solution was pro grips, DP seat and comfy gloves. With race fitted gloves I was struggling to even use the indicator at times. The above + suspension setup made it a pleasure ride.
OEM seats on 1098 and 848 were poor. Too slippery, so you slid to the front on bumps etc. The DP race seat was a great improvement, but the early neoprene ones were a bit delicate. With the DP race seat, my 1098 was very comfortable.
