998 Convert Biposto To Monoposto

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Dr.D, Apr 12, 2015.

  1. Hi all,
Sorry if this has been answered numerous times but can't seem to search, anyway, I want to change my 998 biposto to a monoposto, other than the tail unit do I need to change subframe or anything else? Is it different from 916-996?
Thanks for your help in advance

  2. There are conflicting stories about this.On my 916,it was a straight swap.

  3. You will need spacers to raise the rear of the seat to get the correct fit. You will also need a mounting bracket\brace which can either be an original bracket or a custom bracket as sold on eBay.

I have converted a lot of seats to mono for various people and it's a straightforward enough job on an original seat, if you get one with no rear mountings (i.e. some fibreglass seats) then you will need to make modifications to the underside of the seat but it is easy enough if you know what to do.

The rest of the seat parts will just swap over such as the front bracket, rear light unit mounting pins, rear lock plate etc

Here's a link to the bracket on eBay but an original is cheaper at about £5 odd a few years back.

  4. Cheers guys, now my search begins for a 998 monoposto seat unit...

  5. Just did this conversion my self. I used a M6 threaded bar cut down to maybe 6-8cm. Fastened this into the seat unit. I also ordered a light bracket as mentioned above.

Instead of spacers I used M6 nuts to adjust the height of the locking plate so the sadle position was about correct.

Time spent: About 1 hour from start to finish

  6. As above you need to do some slight modification to the latch bracket.... or get a mono subframe and save a couple of kg. :upyeah:

  7. Mono to biposto is pretty straight forward.
Only on the first 916's (think even only the '94) was it harder to go from mono to biposto as these had the larger P8 ecu's.

    Henk!!!

  8. I used a piece of 19x19 aluminium box section to alter the latch locator and worked out pretty spot on. Only cost about $6.

  9. I used 2 pieces of cut down 15mm bore pollypipe left over from when I replumbed my bathroom. That was until I swapped out the original steel subframe for the correct alloy mono one, then I didnt need them any more.

  10. Genuiune factory 998s mono's are very rare, only seven yellow ones were imported.
