1200 Coolant Leak

  1. When I wheeled the MTS out of the garage today there as trail of coolant emerged from the belly pan. Not much, probably about a tablespoonful. I tracked it down the radiator top hose where it joins to the thermostat. The clip will need tightening but it's near impossible to get to hidden behind the frame tube, hoses and electrical cabling. I had a similar leak last winter from the small bleed hose at the rear of the vertical cylinder. I put them down to not being properly tightened when the heads were replaced a couple of years ago. What puzzles me though is why can I ride the bike for 9 months of the year with no leaks and no apparent loss of coolant then when I lay it up for the winter it starts to ooze out?
The weather was so mild today that I took the bike out for a short 30 mile run. I can't remember the last time, if ever, that I've been able to take a bike out in mid-December with no salt/ice/wet on the roads and a temperature of 14ÂșC in NE Scotland. :)
