Just been having a discussion with a mate about the temperature my bike runs at - it seems to me that generally speaking here in the UK it probably runs too cool - maybe 68-70 degrees. It should probably be running more like low 80s. Round town and especially when we're getting the warm weather we have at the moment it'll be running much hotter, with the fans regularly coming on. But the rest of the year it's always running cool. I'm wondering if the engine is running poorly because of this - over-fueling because it thinks the engine is cold? My 1200 Multistrada exhibited the same characteristics. I'd be curious to hear the experiences and views of others about this.
All 4 of my Ducatis at 50mph steady speed run in the 60 degree range. Round town up to 80 and 90 when actually moving and the fans kick in when it's stop start. Remember, steady state coolant temperature is usually lower than oil temperature which is a more accurate reflection on engine temperature. Andy
Yeah, it's pretty normal, but I have to wonder if our engines are running too cool in the British climate?
If it is of real concern to you, have a play with duct tape and experiment by varying the air flow through the radiator. If you feel the bike runs better at a higher steady state coolant temperature, you have your answer. Andy
