Hi all, I’m loving the bike, but I am pretty light (around 11 stone) and the rear Ohlins is way way too hard on our bumpy fen roads. Very little sag etc. I have turned all the compression/rebound damping completely off. I’m real steady so I’m not looking for a “track bike” it’s purely for bumbling about. I’m thinking of going down from the 80nm to 70nm. Do others have any experience with this. I’m after an Ohlins 01091 17/70, any advice where to get one in the U.K. or one for sale? Thanks all.
Get a ride height adjuster and set the ride height to a proper number Set the sag properly for your weight Then dial in two damping It’s a simple tried and trusted formula
I have a corse se and suspect the spring is for show and it’s really packed with concrete! The ride height adjuster and correct setup sounds like good advice before it bucks me off one day from hitting a bump
I'm about your weight (155lb fully geared up) and I went with a 70 spring. I mostly do canyon riding with some occasional track day.
This should be a measured thing thats suits you the rider fully kitted along with a bit of how you ride it..... You wouldn't just put on a set of leathers two sizes too small would you because it wouldn't fit and be wrong! the same principle should be applied to suspension!
It’s good to hear that others are using a 70nm to fit their use. I’m fully wound off on the spring and still can’t get anything like normal sag. It hardly compresses. My friend who is 50% heavier than me gets some sag and it rides well with him, firm but compliant. As Greg said, it’s going to pitch me off on these fen roads. I have an old 600ss which is more normal. And even the VFR kind of can be trusted within the limits of its weight. I do need to sort this bit and I can enjoy the slower, typically bumpy roads we have around here, as well as fast A Roads.
I'm also on the lookout for a lighter spring, job for this weekend is to try and modify the adjuster to see if i can back the preload off a little more.
Not sure if that was to me or op. If in response to the adjuster comment one is free and allows me to see if I actually need a different spring whereas the new spring costs presumably around 200 quid to try it out. Would a shorter spring help? I would have thought that a shorter spring at constant rate would end up with a lower bike without the full travel that a standard sized spring at the correct weight would provide.
Ohlins spring less than 100 quid Shorter spring move the adjuster locknuts further down the thread for clearance ride height remains the ssme
Sorry i was including fitment for that. To get that clearance wouldn't you be looking at a spring that was the the same length uncompressed as the 1091 is whilst compressed less the aforementioned clearance?
