Could my 2012 Multi actually be a 2010 !

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Dave Multistrada 1200ST, Sep 18, 2012.

  1. While continuing to try and explain to myself why I seem to have had so many probs and to a certain extent some seem typical of the 2010 bikes ie useless back brake on my 2012 I now raise a curious point ...... According too some information on the, mts 1200 info pages sourced by the ever helpfull Andyw it suggests that frame numbers containing the letter A indicates 2010 year of manufacture , now my 2012 frame number is ZDMA200AC etc etc , the 4th digit being the A that would suggest it is of 2010 manufacture ,
    My paranoid state is now concerned that I could possibly have some sort of 2010 manufactured bike fitted with grey bodywork and other 2012 details ie I seem to have the later type maroon rather than the earlier bright red buttoned RH switchgear
    I dont want too launch any accusations at Ducati without getting my facts right so ..... Anyone with 2011 and especially 2012 models fancy looking at their V5 to establish if the 4th digit of their frame number is a A ? ...
    Any other thoughts on this subject are most welcomed

  2. pm any Ducati dealer on here, or ask your own, your frame number. They should tell you what year it is.

  3. Ive already contacted Ducati UK and the only information they have is that my bike is showing as a 2012 which it would do on their database as that database will be complied from the registration details of when the dealer sold me the bike , The dealer will obviously maintain that the bike is 2012 as too all intents and purposes it is as far as they are concerned as thats the machine that Ducati supplied to them at the end of 2011 for the 2012 season
    If it transpires that other 2012 models also have a 4th letter A in the frame number then i,ll exclude this very slim possibilty that I have a mixed up bike , Ducati UK also said that for any detailed information regarding the decoding of frame numbers id have too deal with the Ducati factory in Italy , Ultimately I could poke around a dealers showroom peering at frame numbers but they are surprisingly difficult too see properly on a Multi even in good light as I discovered when checking my own

  4. My PP is ZDMA200AECB etc etc. I got it on 01/09/2012 and apparently straight from Italy ??? Don't overly care , loving it.

  5. My S Touring is ZDMA200ACxxxxxxxx 1st Sept 2012, it was in stock but I am hoping not for 2 years. Come to think of it, I did not ask so I may be liable.
    The warranty cert says manufactured 22.06.2012 but that might be part of the cover up.

    They still have quite a few others in stock which they will need to shift before December before the 2013 hits the dealers.

  6. Given how many they've been selling, you'd be doing very well to find a bike that had been sat around waiting for 2 years. It's even less likely that someone would then go through the hassle of tearing off all the old bodywork and bits and rebuilding it as a Titanium S model.

    Stop being an eejit :upyeah: More likely you've been unlucky and got a Friday afternoon bike, it does happen.

  7. Brilliant chaps , fantastic and many thanks , I can rest easy on that front now

  8. You should have a barcode stuck on your warranty book that tells the year, my 2012 std ABS reads

    MS 1200 ABS 12 EUR RGB STD

  9. This is the key to the data stamped on the frame, according to the workshop manual:

    Data stamped on the frame

    Example:
    ZDM...A2..01..**..A..B..000001
    ....1........2....3...4....5...6...7

    Item
    1 Manufacturer: Ducati Motor Holding
    2 Type - identical for all the models MTS 1200
    3 Variant
    4 Version:
    AA = MTS 1200
    BA = MTS 1200 ABS
    CA = MTS 1200 S Touring
    AB = MTS 1200 S ABS
    5 Year of construction (A=2010)
