Hi folks I have just started track days on my 959 and following Silverstone the standard Diablo Corsa looked like this. I have seen a few threads saying that the new surface at Silverstone was particularly harsh on tyres and read the life at lean guide on tyres pressures but I’m still a little confused. The cold pressures were set to 31 front and 29 rear. - previously at Cadwell I had set them to 32, 30 on a very hot day and let a little air out when seeing the pressures hit 36 hot. At Cadwell I didn’t see the same tearing - is this down to the new surface or the cooler weather on the day? It looks like slight hot tearing to me indicating my pressures were too low but that contradicts the opinions on some of the other threads I have seen. On another note - I have another couple of track days coming up - is this tyre still ok for another couple of full days? I want to get the wear out of it as it hasn’t done many miles - once it’s done I’m thinking of moving to a Supercorsa SP - will this be ok to mix with a the standard Diablo Corsa front? Thanks - Steve
Try dropping another psi or two and then (if that does t work) back off the rebound a click or two. Or if 100% suspension are on your next trackday, pay £40 or whatever for the, to help. If it’s tyres r us and that Steph fella, save your money
Thanks guys - I just checked and 100% are at Donington on Tuesday so I’ll pay the £60 and see how it goes.
Currently I’m riding to the circuits and back - so no tyre warmers - hence the idea of SP as a logical upgrade to the Corsa without stepping into the realms of needing transport. That being said I can see the way this might go - van - track fairings, slicks, upgrade to 1299 S.......... I really fancy a Spanish trip but not keen on my pride and joy being rammed into a stillage and coming out scratched and battered so track fairings are starting to look like the next logical step.
Life at track is much nicer if you drive there, not ride IMO. A trailer isn't stupid cash and warmers make a massive difference to the day.
I’ll look them up - been reading reviews of focused events and no limits and they seem more suited for dedicated track bikes that you might not be as precious about.
Just got a brand new Audi on lease with no towbar so trailer isn’t an immediate option - not sure of the cost of fitting a towbar - the Audi ones are stupid money and not sure I can have one fitted to a lease car - need to look into it. Was wondering if a cheap van would be worth it for the convenience and security but I’m not quite there yet - maybe next year!
Tbh unless you do lots it’s cheaper to rent a van every now and then. Imho unless you get serious, do what you’re doing but buddy up with someone who has a van just in case... worst case get you and bike home.
Guess it depends on your PCP plan. My last PCP I took out a personal loan for the balloon payment and spent 3 years clearing the balloon at the same amount as the PCP was which meant I had a bought and paid for new car after 6 years. Didn't matter I fitted a tow bar (was £550 for a removable one that linked in to the car electric.).
Thanks for the advice guys I had a great day at Donington, the weather made it exhausting but the track is a blast - loved Craner curves - in fact pretty much every part of the track except Melbourne Hairpin which I never felt I nailed. Had my suspension setup by 100% - only a few small tweaks needed - backing off a little on the preload at both ends. Dropped the tyre pressures right down as the day went on and it cleaned up nicely - now debating whether I can get through Cadwell next week on the rear or to get it swapped out. On the other front - van rental seems the most sensible option - thanks for keeping me sane!
