Had a good day at WSBK Donington on Sunday with the family. The Mrs asks how fast are they going down craner curves? Looked all over the www for something and drew a blank, so thought someone here must know.
I've been through them on the Ron Haslem race school day and I can tell you that the TV doesn't do them justice. They have a blind apex and drop away like your going off the edge of the world. Must take some big balls to go through them as race speed and get them right. I saw Nakano take them sideways once on the ZXRR in 2006 I think it was.Big respect for a little guy.
I have been through them in a car and always thought I should have entered at least 5-10 mph faster. Flat out on a bike must be terrifying.
Flat out in 5th on a TZ 250 4DP, don't know the speed cos no speedo and I am probably crap compared to a real racer. Fast enough to be interesting though
Quick vid on my 2nd ever track day back in 2009. Only been riding 18 months and was still quite nervous. Poor quality vid by standards these days but can make out about 105mph at the top of Craners.
Here's an onboard from Dave Mackay (@scrawnsenior on here) who rides in the 899 Challenge BSB support races for the True Heroes Racing team. and to put his speed into some perspective, check out the end of this video where I am behind him and he pulls away down Craner. This is on the same day as the video in my sig below where I am passing most of the fast group at 3.30mins. As I am on the 1199s I can catch up on the straights and on the brakes but his corner speed was amazing and he just sails away from me. He said that the lead guys do the same with him and when he follows them he is sliding at all the apexes!
