Just heard from a mate of mine that his crank bearing has gone on his Multi, 62 plate, 6000 miles. Again the nerves about keeping this bike beyond warranty increase :Bag:
I love riding the bike it's awesome, but as said in another post I hate washing it, every time I do I notice some little imperfection and it make me feel sick. My tank decals have started to peel of, some of the lacquer on the side panels has spots in it, the brake disk bobbins are leaching rust, the gear selector arm rod ends went rusty and I had to replace them and buy covers for them, the disc pad retaining pins are rusty, the front brake pipes and cables have worn the paint off the inside of the forks, the brake pipe ends and calliper bolts have gone an od dull grey, the exhaust valve fecked up after 1500 miles (after market exhaust fitted), the start button stuck the indicator button went faulty the clocks got full of water, none of the faring's align. The paint is coming off the clutch casing and cylinder head, the Blanking grub screws in the cylinder head have gone rusty. I've had to fit a more powerful rear spring, I've had to have the seat altered. The chain is forever going rusty even though I clean it down and re wax it every 600miles. The paint has started to wear off just below the seat at the bottom of the fuel tank. This is all on a 5 month old bike. It may be a prestige make but in all honesty I wish I had bought a GS or a Triumph Adventurer. Funnily enough the wife an I are going to Brands for the weekend and we were worrying about it getting pinched from out side the hotel, it made it more of a concern when cadoganpier posted his bike had just been stolen. My wife said to me if yours gets stolen will you buy another Ducati? I said no probably not. 5 years I dreamed of having a Multistrada, and When I get one I find out there made of £17250.00 (Cash not bank lone) worth of cheep shit. Ad to this all the concerns about the main and crank bearings, I find my self asking should I sell it now while it still works and look reasonable?

Ouch JC that is awful and if that was my bike I would trying my hardest to give it back to Ducati as unfit for purpose! I must admit I absolutely love my bike but I also have areas of concern regarding the finish with bits going rusty, however my last bike was an Aprilia bought new in 2011 and that was the same, maybe all modern bikes are getting this way? I will Andy, my mate was completely unaware, he took the bike in for a warped rear disc to be sorted and the dealer flagged up that the engine was noisy and then diagnosed the engine bearing as being the culprit, he is in warranty and the dealer has been outstanding so far.

I wouldn't buy the new GS (or A) if you are worried about build quality and crappy finishing if I were you (certainly wouldn't get that Triumph Tractor thingy)? Been popping into UKGSer.com lately as my mates new GSA had gearbox problems (now rectified with a new clutch) and it is one huge list of moans about flaking engine paint, flappy windscreens, broken screen retaining pins, stealable clocks (really!), dodgy gearboxes and clutches, problems pulling away on hill starts, noisy tyres.......the list goes on and on! Seems it is a function of the high volume, lower margin driven World we now inhabit, which also affects cars and pretty much most other "consumer" items we buy nowadays?
Again, let's get some perspective here. It's not great news but lets do some math How many reported bikes of bearing failure vs how many Multis sold? It's clearly a manufacturing defect on a small number of them, as such if and when it happens it's just bad luck, not worth worrying about. Don't get me wrong, bits of rust etc break me but equally if I see it I treat it or replace it, whichever it needs to be. I'm not saying its right, I'm just saying if you use your bike and it gets wet and not dried then its a probable cause. Paint bubbling is a different story but not a common one. It highly unlikely to be age related as if it's that shit it would have been like that since day one, unless of course it's been accelerated due to fuel spills or cleaning product. I mean how many 100,000's of miles have been done on Multis? Millions even? But tight community's like this forum and ducati.ms just compound the odd thing here and there.

Sorry to go off topic but I took a feck off big chain with me, I don't trust southerner's so I chained it to the premier inn camera post. The guy behind the counter said he would also keep an eye on it, but like I said I don't trust southerner's, Oh and just for the record all my family except for me are from down south, and there all self centred money grabbing in it for them selves barsuards. so I may be biased.

Id just undo the rear wheel nut and drag bike into van. Rear wheels are cheap.Not a very secure method chaining up a bike.
