749 Crash Protection?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Aaron dean, Aug 3, 2014.

  1. I'm after a bit of advice from others who have first hand experience with regards to crash protection on the xx9 bikes.

I've been doing the odd track day on my 749s and I think it's time to get some protection. I've got a set of crc track fairings fitted, r&g bar end protectors, fork protectors and rear spindles, but as if yet no frame sliders.

So my question is, which frame bobbins are recommended if any at all, I've heard rumours of bobbins splitting frames etc but I have no facts. Also are there any engine covers for the xx9 bikes?

  2. R and G do a plastic engine clutch side protector. There are covers available for the water pump side but they are in different forms from simple carbonfibre waterpump covers up to full side covers. Some of these items are no longer made so it might be a question of secondhand and eBay.

I have a full waterpump side protector used in the now defunct Ducati Monster challenge race series which covers the whole waterpump side but you would be lucky to find one of those now.

  3. Its good you've got fork and rear spindle covered. Doubt you'll go wrong there. Frame protection is debatable for reasons you've mentioned. In some offs they'll work wonders but in others they might bust your frame. As said, R&G way to go.

  4. I have Speedymoto under fairing frame bobbins. Tried and tested they work a treat .

  5. Agree, get a protector that fits under the fairing. That will avoid the protector catching something and bending the frame. You damage the fairing anyway.

  6. If you are doing engine case covers use the ones that are like an overcoat not the just have a slider piece of metal that bolts on. To the middle. Found to my own bitter expense that while they do a great job, only until the edge catches a kerb. Then it tears the case open
