So I took the plunge and I bought the Cat C Multi that was auctioned on eBay recently. Many of you might have already seen the pictures in the listing: First thing to do is to clean it up and have a good look at what I can salvage and what I need. I'm gonna try and document the process on here, I'd appreciate any help/tips/pointers towards parts etc. More pictures to come once I've had the chance to give it a clean! Cheers!
This evenings efforts have been limited to buffing the DP screen. It was stained by brake fluid, after the brake fluid reservoir detached itself from the hand guard, but after lots of buffing with Auto Glym Paint Renovator, it isn't looking too bad now! Still a bit hazy, but I'll give it a once over with some polish, should be okay. Now thats the easy part over with, the real work begins soon!
Looks like a great project, I bought a Cat C R1 a few years ago and built it up from scratch, I learnt a lot and it kept me busy most evenings. Think it might be time to get another project, you will never make a profit on it but it gives great satisfaction when it is complete.
I know what you mean. This was never a project intended to make any money, far from it! I would never have been able to afford a new or used Pikes Peak, hopefully this way, I'll get to ride one that won't have cost me as much! Intend on keeping it for a while! I rebuilt my 749R two years back, learnt a lot about the bike, but this Multi is far more complicated, there are cables and sensors everywhere, the 749R was archaic in comparison!
Nice find stretta, I picked up a 2010 S for 5K and did a similar rebuild. Does it start? You might like this site, Used Motorcycle Parts, Ducati, BMW, Triumph
Yep, it does start and run, only got 1740 miles on it!! Need the rear end parts the most at the moment. I've got a set of Hyper hand guards/mirrors that I'm thinking of putting on there, just have to get some brackets for the brake and clutch reservoirs.
Take a look at these,Rizoma Fluid Reservoir Bracket-M6 I used these brackets as I put barkbusters on. It's a better set up than how they mount to the stock ducati turnsignal/handguards.
They are nice, but then I'd have to do something about the front indicators, so I was going to either try to Hyper set up or look for standard guards with indicators.
Looking at the pictures it appears to be not that bad, I'm sure after a few visits to the garage she will be back to a normal bike . Speaking from experience with restoring some classic bikes, don't get too disheartened if you miss out on some replacement parts just carry on looking and they will still turn up again. Good luck.
What are you offering for a perfect genuine rear light? Mines going spare. Also rear bumper (attaches to swinging arm) and number plate holder with two indicators, one needs a new rubber.
Piece of piss mate. As long a that frame is not bent nor the suspenders rooted and you've got a few quid....Game On. Nice project. Most of that will buff right out
