Custom Subframe - Any Recommendations?

  1. Hi All

Ive got a 675 Daytona track bike and I'm looking at swapping the seat and rear fairing something smaller. Don't get me wrong.....this is purely for aesthetic reasons! I'm a tart!

The stock tail is looking properly dated now. Its big and chunky and the seat is really wide....great for road riding I expect but something sleeker for track would be great.

After much digging about, this picture has surfaced. Its clearly a 675 but the tail is pretty much exactly what Im after. After more digging, it looks like this is an RS 250 race tail. After more digging (its a deep hole by now) I've found out where I can get one of these.

Of course it's not going to fit over the original subframe which brings me to my next question. Can anyone recommend a place where I can get a subframe made up to fit the Daytona and the seat unit?

    Any advice gratefully received!

  2. If you can get your hands on that sub frame as well, it would make the job a lot easier. Probably just a case of changing angle and length of the four, front facing struts. Probably less than a morning's work for a competent sheet metal worker. Shame you're not closer.

  3. DO you mean the RS250 frame? I was thinking of getting something like this made up. Just a case of a loop round at the top then a strut on either side to the lower mount to fit inside the 'tangs'. It would have a plate through the middle as well for some captive nuts to bolt the seat onto through the seat pad

  4. Yes. I should imagine all the work in fabricating a sub frame would be in the rear section. The front part should be easier to change. Unless you're after a special one off jobby making, I think the re sub frame should be easier.

  6. make the seat a structural composite unit :upyeah:

  7. Is it just too narrow, if not possibly it could be cut down the centre and widened to fit. That might be an easier route and maybe even cheaper, just a thought.

  8. By the look of it the current subframe is too long and too wide as well. I've contemplated getting a second hand subframe too and getting giggly with an angle grinder but they seem to be up for silly money. I guess enough people track them for the subframe to be a sought after part

  9. Steve Bailey at BBB Fabrications can help. He's busy building replica TT2 frames but has recently modded the rear of my SS for me and does ally subframes regularly. Top stuff.
    Think he's duc904red on here?
