1200 Cylinder Guards - Are They Needed?

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by phanson, Sep 4, 2014.

  1. Just got a new S-touring and getting used to the skyhook. Defo works better the faster you go - but I reckon the tyres are out classed - I feel some T30's coming on?

However, I digress - what I would appreciate knowing is; whether or not I should purchase front cylinder / exhaust / radiator guards? Which ones are easy to fit and good quality longer term?

How well does the standard finish hold up with no guards fitted? I have screwed the fender extender on the front mudguard already.

Many thanks in advance of your replies.

I have the touratech exhaust gaurd sprayed black heat proof paint and the head gaurd from eBay bloke from Rotherham £35 works great

  3. Don't forget radiator guards to.

  4. I have R&G Radiator guard (and crash bungs).

Good quality items and very easy to fit.

For the relative cost of the rad guard vs replacement or repair of the rad (notwithstanding the inconvenience of a stone hole while out) I would recommend fitting one.

  5. Oil and water radiator guards needed.
Also head ( the head gets peppered like the bonnet of a motorway car) and ABS sensor at the front.
Especially if you go out in groups or do a lot of overtakes on single lanes.

£700+vat n fitting for a water radiator....I don't want to think about the head!!

  6. Radiator guard is a must, all others are option according to preference.
Evotech is a better fit than the R&G ones for very similar money.
I also fitted a fender extender to lengthen the longer front guard back bit.

Personally not had any issues with the head or any other parts in ~25k miles.
Giving the head a real good clean each winter to get the tar off saw it looking like new.

  7. As others have said , rad guards definitely recommended. Head guard also recommended to keep the finish looking good.
If you have , or are planning to fit fog/aux lights then they wont fit with the R&G guards (without modification). For that reason I would recommend Evotech so your options remain open.

  8. I have the Evo tech oil cooler guard and rad guard, they were easy to fit and as said went on even though I have side lights and engine bars. I also bought a head guard off a guy on eBay and an exhaust guard from another chap all are holding up well.
quick note I went to Italy 2 up a few weeks ago the temperature was in the 30 and the bike dint over heat once.
