1098 Dash And Lights Flickering On/off

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by suttz83, Oct 2, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

Must say that the Ducati has been behaving itself for a good few months. It's been great until now.

During a ride out the other day all the lights and lights on the dash would flick off then randomly on again. Sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for a few seconds. The speed, trips and mileage would still all display. If I stopped and turned the bike off and on they would come on again with no problems until I was riding again.

    Any ideas where to start?

    Thanks
    Ben

  2. :(Sorry to say, it'll be the voltage regulator.

  3. Don't be sorry! a solution is a good thing. However, my next question may be different

How much is a new one of those?

  4. Or are you just blinking a lot lately? A couple of matchsticks is cheaper than a VR ;)

  5. Just read about a recall that was done on these. How could I know if mine has been done? Is it a different part?

A quick google scan came up with around £40-£50 for a new one.
Does that sound about right? Looks like a fairly simple change out part. Couple of bolts and couple of connectors?

  6. The recall I know about is a heat shield on the 1098s, its an alloy shield around it

The best type allegedly is the Shindengen type

    This any help?

  7. Swap all fuses for new ones.
Had a mates 1098 on track with dash going on and off. Turned out to be a fine crack in the fuse filament.

  8. Thanks for all the help chaps. I will check all the fuses and then if still the same replace the VR. I will also check to see if the recall has been done for the new heat shield and or VR.

    Cheers.

  9. mine did exactly the same, changed the reg/rec and good as new. pretty simple to do as well

  10. Only other thing is the relays as per the 1198 Electric problem thread, I'd do fuses and relays first then if that's not cured it move onto the reg/rec.

Touch wood mine has been fine but when (not if) it goes tits up I'm doing that Shindengen replacement
