1200 Dash Leds - A Different Problem

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Derek, Apr 9, 2015.

  1. Many folk have problems with the some of the LEDs glowing dimly when another one is lit. Mine has done that all of the 2 1/2 years I've had the bike and as long as it didn't get any worse and the dash continues to work it hasn't bothered me.
However, towards the end of last year the neutral light LED sometimes didn't come on. It didn't bother me too much as I usually knew when I was in neutral anyway and the LCD still said "N". But now the LH flasher warning LED has started being intermittent as well. It stopped working a week or 2 ago but was ok again a short while later. Last night it stopped working again and was still not working this morning. Fortunately the indicators themselves are still working.
Not having the tell tale could mean I leave the flasher on inadvertently, not good if it's on the left, and it would also be an MoT failure. Hmm :(

  2. Time too open the piggy bank!

  3. I think I'll live with it a bit longer before doing that

  4. This is all part of the same problem.
It is localised corrosion within the "sealed" instrument cluster.
I assume it would be an mot failure if noticed by a strict tester.
Its about £700+vat assuming you swapped the clocks yourself, then took! It to the dealer to get it "initialised".
On this earlier bike you odometer will start at 0000 again.

  5. I know why and I'm all too aware of the potential costs. I just thought I'd post up on a slightly different dash problem.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  6. Christ! It's the 21st century. You'd think a major bike manufacturer could've come up with a reliable supplier for these things. How hard can it be to fit a quality bit of kit that doesn't go wrong? Mine's only done 6000 miles and having trouble like that mentioned above.
The only bikes I've had clock trouble with over the years have been Italian. None of the Jap bikes had this issue.

    Cheers,

    Chris.

  7. New DVT has completely new dash. lets hope it's not made by the same company as the old ones! My replaced under warranty clocks had the awol neutral light too.

  8. I was happy to note last night, that my 2010 dash still only flashes the Engine Management light along with the indicators, full beam etc, so hadn't got worse than last year. Hopefully I can drag another 4 years out of it before trading - spending £800 doesn't appeal much!

  9. It gets better! The dash is now misting up across the rev counter range and the round dial to the right looks like it's about to crack. Left indicator lamp still not working. Really Ducati? It might have been a used bike but it still cost £13000. I think for the money we should be able to expect a bit of kit that work correctly.

  10. This is a seriously bad bit of form by Ducati.
Note all of you who've had the clocks replaced.....it's with EXACTLY the same clock design!!!
The problem WILL return, just when.

Come on Ducati....release the casing plastics/screen only and allow those that can to do a reasonable repair at a sensible price.
Cost of plastics/screen circa £12....Sales price £40 (even profit for all those in the supply chain).
Then allow others to repair the PCB's, connectors and then reassemble for say £200+VAT all in.
    This £700+VAT is just ....robbery!
Note I've an in warranty bike...so no axe to grind.

  11. Well the LH indicator warning lamp on mine is working again - for now. The neutral light works when it feels like it.
