Going to CSS and they say 105Db limit. Tried mine in the garage and it never went over 97 was very surprised as have terms with baffles out. It was a Db download on my phone. Do you recon this is true? Regards Steve
I've got a full race system on my 848... not had it tested but was told it was 105... Got slip on can on my 748, they have been tested at 97... Don't know if that helps... Been told that a warm bike can run about 3db less than a cold one... Cheers, Bob
Be very surprised at that... just over 105 db for mine with slip on's and baffles out. 102 with them in, though I have shortened the baffles so would be slightly less otherwise.
Mines got Termis and no baffles at the moment and it wakes the dead lol Think I'm going to have to stick the baffles in for the summer as the plod are a bit on he case here in South Wales. Still not as loud as the Mille with MIVV GP cans.
iPhones certainly have a limit of what the microphone can handle and some of the apps are limited at best. You used to be able to use the mic in the headphones for a better reading. My old 1098s had the 70mm system and would only pass the 105 test at Cadwell when the engine was hot. Was 107 first time round.
Like Spareparts, I've a 1098R with 70mm system- no problems. My pal has a 1098S and whenever we do a trackday he always gets a higher db reading. Mine sounds more 'basey'
Just out of interest, what RPM are y'all measuring at? Idle? 3k?... Also, how far away & what angle from cans?
I ain't measuring it... the marshals are, think it was 5k off the top of my head from directly behind the cans
I thought I had posted this but can not find it now. Anyway if it is somewhere sorry for doing it twice. Am going to CSS and they only allow 105Db. Downloaded an Ap to measure my 1098s with Termies with baffles out. Highest reading I got was only 97Db and this was in the garage. Can this be right? Regards Steve
The standard measurement for noise is done usually at around 5-6k rpm, not at idle. Sometimes they do it static, sometimes it is a ride by with the highest reading taken as the measure. I'd be very surprised if a 1098 was only putting out 97db at 5k rpm. Your home gear is not going to be that good in terms of accuracy but it should be ball park to tell you if you're over the limit. You have steve.... it's here. http://ducatiforum.co.uk/forum/threads/db-level-1098s.20809/#post-327694
Cheers Chaps I was at 5K but in the garage with the door open. It must have been loader than 97Db. Glad to hear that some of the R's are getting only 105Db will they let you go if you are on the limit or do you have to be below? Regards Steve
They made me ride around the paddock to warm it up last time.... They gave up on my third attempt and just gave me a sticker lol
You'll probably be on or close to limit (105db). This might sound a bit dodgy but you'll be fine. I've never heard of a 1*98 failing a 105 limit. I'd be very surprised if you had a problem.
