Anybody any updates re noise levels for the 899 with Termi's with and without baffles. I'm talking to castle Combe as were sponsoring an event there in June and I'm doing a track day with a rider we sponsor Joe Burns, they claim to have tested an 899 with standard cans at 111db! Hope not..... I think that was static. I've heard that the Termi's are indeed quieter! Ay updates would be appreciated. Many thanks Mike.
Castle Combe and their tester are notorious when it comes to testing exhaust noise levels and you are unlikely to get a pass without db baffles. At Brands last Tuesday the Panigale riders were advised to lean their bikes over so the exhaust outlet didn't discharge into the ground. Brands daytime limit is 105db and there were a selection of Ducatis running including a tri challenge 899. Andy
A mate had his 1199 (with termis) tested at Castle Doom and he was way over the 110 (more like 115 from memory). I recently had these made and I going to pop over next Wednesday for a sound test so will keep you posted.
CC have a different way of testing which makes many bikes fail. Doesnt help that the sound is so low to the ground and bounces up (from what I have read)
Once again the castle doom fuckwhits confuse people. Every half decently run circuit uses the ACU prescribed sound test method (google it - ACU noise level testing should do it). Cattle Fool test at 3/4 of full revs, so any sound level recorded by the daft twats there is total and utter nonsense in the real world
Yeh - bleedin 9000 RPM they wanted. Looking at the ACU link it would have been 5000. Its a shame as Castle Doom is so close.............
Castle Combe testing is dictated by the council as part of their licence to operate. Ducking ridiculous testing method IMHO. One of the reasons why I haven't bothered going there.
Did anyone get through Castle a Doom with Termi's or standard pipes on the 899? It really is the dumbest approach to noise levels but ....
Anyone taken a stock 899 to silverstone with success yet? I have silverstone booked in August - do I have to buy some Termis or Akras before then? Life is hard.
Took my 1199 there, standard cans and it was fine. Quite a few Rs running round and 899s and didn't hear of any black flags. They only do a drive by too unless you are concerned you might fail. Should be fine
When I took the SV there was a standing test at 5k rpm as well as driveby. But if you are ok on a 1199 then I'm sure I'll be fine on the 899 too. Thanks!
They must have changed it from when you last went, I actually spoke to someone at Silverstone as FE had the event down as 102dB. She told me events there are 105 static and 102 ride by, although the static you need to actually go see them about if you are concerned you might fail the ride by. Fail the static and you can sort it, fail the ride by and you are off track from that moment on.
Calafornian Superbike School run Ducati Pan's. I called them they confirmed they're fine and pass the noise test at SS.
Ran mine at Silverstone full GP circuit. 102db day. They didn't do static test despite saying they would. Just drive by. Put the inserts in my Termi's , and that is a shit job, and no issues all day.
Just back from two days at Cadders. Day 1 noise tester measured 90 degree to the exhaust outlet, 109db (we did few things to get it through). Day 2 noise tester stood 1 metre behind the bike and measured 104db. Full R Termi system fitted.
