The bike may have had a bump (well, almost certainly has) which the dealer didn't spot: kerbed and repainted front wheel, dented frame, bent steering lock tab, front shudder on hard braking, cracked seat fairing. Dealer has been very good and offered to either have the bike back for the above to be looked at or if I wasn't happy with it they offered to buy it back. I'm really happy with the bike in all other respects. My cynical side is a bit suspicious they are so willing to give me my money back but I think they just missed the signs. If they can fix the shudder, refinish the wheel and replace the seat fairing the bike would then be in the condition it was described as when I bought it. I'm thinking better the devil you know and have the bike fixed rather than go through the stress of trying to find another one. Anything wrong with that logic?
As both the above have stated, walk away and look again. Especially with a dented frame! Was it HPI Checked?
Yes, its HPI clear. The dent is very small but it's clearly from the clip-on clamp bashing into the frame. Thats 3 votes to give it back. 0 to keep it.
I doubt many people on here would buy it with a dented frame, no matter how small. It's a dead giveaway that it's been down the road. Something to think about when you come to sell it?
I'd be inclined to give it back too if it were me. Sounds like it hasn't had the best of times and that is just stuff that is obviously wrong with it.
There's no obvious damage anywhere else - it's super clean apart from the things I mentioned. I only noticed the frame and wheel a week or so after I got it, and the cracked seat fairing yesterday. Gah!
You could easily find another clean one that really was clean. Give it back and get another. You'll at least have peace of mind. Ask if the dealer can get you another. They have ways and means - especially if they think they owe you and want to keep you as a customer.
Re-arrange this sentence... "Barge Pole touch wouldn't with it a", I'd give it back and get another I do find it hard to believe the dealer didn't spot any of this surely the would be offering some kind of warranty and you would think/hope they would have given it a once over before sticking it on the shop floor.
I detect a consensus forming. I find it hard too, especially since they put a brand new set of tires on it. No way you could miss that kerbing.
i have heard of a few 848/1098 blowing bottom ends down the line from a tip over while running. Bottom end gets oil starved etc etc. The bike could have revved it's nuts off on it's side for 10 seconds before the safety circuit shut it down. You could be sitting on a maintenance time bomb, you just don't know. I would be taking the dealers hand off in my speed to accept the re purchase offer.
Jeeze. That's not good! Thanks for the scary info. Looks like I'm in the market for a new bike then: 848 Evo or Corse only. If anyone knows of a good low milage one let me know!
As above, give it back but don't go there again, wouldn't trust them tbh,and there is plenty of used ones out there, but be quick or u will miss the sunshine
I'm with that lot ^ give it back, buy a 1098, scare yourself stupid and ride slower but have the big boy in the garage, its clearly that you hanker for
