I'm about to dip my toe into Ducati ownership once again but have been hit with a dilemma. Do I buy a 1098s or a 848 evo they are both similar money now obviously the 848's are a lot newer and have the modern motor vs the more powerful 1098 with ohlins and shiny bits. What's the general consensus of the forum? I've read that the 848 evo is the better on the road and easier to ride faster. But thought I'd ask the owners? Thanks in advance.
Depends on whether you can live with the dry clutch rattle or not. 848 Evo is a very nice bike and has wet clutch.
Love my 1098s and have no problem with it on the roads, wouldn't say no to an 848 either though..... hope that helps lol

Currently I have both. The 848 is a blast and sounds feels and rides very differently to the 1098, it's easier to throw around and feels less of a monster, a great bike. But, if you want to grin from ear to ear after every ride then the 1098 is the tool for the job. What a bike, noisy rattly clutch, terrible below 40mph, but open the beast up and you will be squealing with delight, a torque infested two wheel ballistic missile that exudes pedigree, I bloody love it!! Waiting and watching the days extending so we can dance again. Hope this was of use.
Cheers guys This is my problem I know that a 848 will be fine on the road but I love the acceleration and torque of a big V twin. Not really interested in top speed as I like blatting around the derbyshire country roads which points to 848 again but then again I rather have too much power than not enough my previous bikes other than the street fighter have included a MV f4 and Aprilia RSVR I think its a case of too many sweets in the shop!
Which streetfighter did you have ? 848? if yes and you absolutely loved it you will find the 848 Evo just as much fun but with a little bit more top end, I too my 848 Evo up to North Weald run what you brung, I did 11.4 sec topping 124mph on the 1/4 mile drag run and that was the first time I have done any drag runs since I was 20ish nearly 30yrs ago.
I've ridden the 1098S and it's a bloody good bike. Really bloody good. But I owned the 848 Evo Corse SE. Tremendous bike. Pick the bones out of that
like what.....:Brb::Facepalm: oh no i know this one....spent it on wine and women and wasted the rest....
technically the geometry of a 848 and a 1098 even the 1198 can be the same..the fact that to achieve the classic ducati geometry numbers with a 848 1098 1198 puts the seat really high and short arses cant touch the ground is why it wades so low as std. the dry weight quoted by ducati are the same at 168kg... they can use the same tyres ( a classic ducati 180 v 190 thing) So the handling experience can be the same Historically all ducatis used a dry clutch its almost as iconic as a trellis frame and L twin, look where we have got deviating from this... and finally the throttle works both ways....... one is cheaper than the other and uses cheaper parts to achieve that.... just the facts sir just the facts...
Great responses! I had a the 1098 street fighter or whatever it was I know its a mix of 1098 & 1198 engine. Well I'm going to look at a 1098s tomorrow as the 848 evo guy hasn't bothered to get back to me. plus the 1098 already has the termi's on it
