Dedicated Track Bike... Gsxr750 Or Daytona 675 Or Another One?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by alex_gr, Mar 1, 2020.

  1. Hello All,

For many years have been contemplating with the idea of getting a dedicated track bike, never happened for a number of reasons but mainly due to time availability linked with work commitments.

Ι am now thinking of buying a bike and dedicate it for track use by parking it in Spain with FE and making some trips there every year.

Have a 1299 but will not be converting this one as feel it is too much money sitting for the couple of events per year.

Due to this was thinking of getting either a Suzuki GSXR750 or Triumph Daytona 675 as both these bikes should be relatively easy to maintain but also should be quite fast, not at the level of 1000cc but a bit faster than a 600.

Does anyone have any experience with these two models with any specific suggestions? Any other recommendations just having in mind that It should be easy to maintain so probably any European models are automatically excluded with the exception of a s1000rr gen1.

    Thanks a lot,

    Alex

  4. @El Toro @cookster Thanks a lot for your replies, the gsxr is my preference as used to have one 10 years ago but never ridden a 675 and some r models seem very tasty.

  5. Gsxr. Or an 899 if you want to stay on brand.

  6. Thanks for this! Actually thought about it but then again feels like maintenance will still be lot more expensive against the Japanese ones but might be my perception

  7. Have a GSXR 750k8 and it's faultless so far.

How much you looking to spend?

  8. 675 all day long!! Mega bikes.

  9. Thanks mate! Budget has a max at probably £6k unless something extraordinary is found that deserves the extra bit

  10. These are rather good, cheapish too. 636cc. This was mine a few years back. An ex track bike, with a good suspension set up. Quick. RedBull.jpg

  11. I understood the word 'mega' was restricted to the Lowes brothers five years ago?

  12. Thanks a lot. Do not know why, Kawasaki was never within my range of options. Something does not click with the brand

  13. You can get a very well sorted GSXR750 for that cash.

  14. Thanks! Did you have one? Any specific recommendations?

  15. Not a lot in the market to be honest but agree 6k should be enough

  16. Walk around any paddock and you’ll find lots of 675’s, and half of them will be in bits!

for 6k, imho I’d get a new as poss gsxr 1000 and factor in some suspension changes. Brakes are shit and need upgrading, lines,mc and pads normally do it

  17. Would say the 636 is not the average Kwak, but I get what you mean. IF I was doing trackways 636 would be my go to bike. Easy to ride very fast. GSXR750 another top choice.
The 675 triples always sound broken to me, though they seem to be a bit handy on track.

  18. I've owned both.
I still think the 675R is the best 'sports bike' I've owned.
I never tracked either so this doesn't really help you I know.
However I felt able to ride the Daytona faster ( private road of course)than any other bike I've owned.
