Is darts a sport? Snooker? Table tennis? Moto GP? I heard a definition once that "you could not be a world champion in a sport if you competed whilst wearing normal shoes". Works for me. Darts & snooker are not sports, table tennis and Moto GP are. Does anyone have a better definition or a challenge of the above?

Exclude from the list of sports any game where money changes hands, ie professional 'sport'. True sport is amateur imho, the rest is just entertainment.

It's a sport if there's a risk of getting seriously hurt - anything else is just a game. ie, football is not a sport - it's a game. I was watching some Elite Speedway on TV the other day - here's an example of a sportsman ( as opposed to a player ) 2010 League final Chris Harris's bike gets clipped and he falls, heavily. Just as you're thinking "Ooooo, that's gonna hurt!", his team-mate, who was directly behind him and has no way of avoiding him, smacks him in the middle of the back with his front wheel and rides right over the top of him. What does this guy do ? Lay on the floor moaning, wailing and waving his arms about ? No - he's a speedway rider, not a soccer player... He gets up, runs back to the pits, fires up his spare bike, then immediately goes out and wins the re-start of the heat - then goes on to lead his team to victory... All those overpaid prima-donnas that kick a pig's bladder about should learn something from this - but they probably won't...

It has to involve engines, noise and speed. Anything on two, three or four wheels or tracks, on water, or in the air with some kind of engine is a sport. If there's no engine, no noise, no speed and nothing but muscles or wind, it's not a sport. IMHO.
