Anyone have good/bad experiences with any of these types of jeans? Thinking of some so good points like are they waterproof to a degree, good protection etc? I was looking at the RST ones so any others I should look at?
I have some Held and RST ones for when I ride the Scrambler (I have leathers for my Pani). Mine certainly aren't waterproof, and I have no intention of testing the protection They are comfortable though
I had a low speed/low side off wearing a cheap pair bought from a stall at a motorcycle show. The kevlar stood up well and the (removable) hip armour protected that area far better than when I had a similar off wearing leathers a few years ago. My alpinestar boot was completely goosed in the same incident. I fear they wouldn't cope too well at higher speed/more friction but for comfort on a tour I find they are far better than leathers or textiles. Re watrerproofing I did wash them in a waterproofing solution that keeps a light shower from soaking through but never been caught in a downpour but wouldn't think they would be up to much sustained rain.
Me n the missus have these: Motorcycle Helmets, Clothing, Jackets, Gloves, Boots & Accessories - SPORTSBIKESHOP They're supposed to be good for a 6sec slide hence the designation "6" they do 4s and I think a 7 now! Very comfortable and room for hip n knee pads. Quite padded in their own right but as El Tel says they're definitely not waterproof
I was in Moto Rapido last week and they have just started to stock an Italian jean that conforms to a high safety standard (claim is that they are the only jean to meet his standard) so I ordered a pair. They weren't cheap and I haven't picked them up yet but I was impressed by the material and they have my size (40" waistx34" leg). If you aren't desperate I'm hoping to get them soon and can give some first hand feed back. Andy
In the better weather I use Draggin jeans with Knox armoured shorts and separate knee pads. Still nice and cool but feel more protected. Don't look mad either
Motorcycle Clothing | Motorcycle Kevlar Jeans & Motorbike Leather Jackets Good blurb. Havent tried them.
I was told they rate this in a 30mph crash, so 6 seconds at 30mph (obviously including the time slowing down after impact).
I have a pair K7 jeans from Hood with D30 knee and hip armour inserts (sold separately of course) that I'm quite happy with. The denim is pretty thick, the kevlar liner is like a pair of inner 3/4 length jeans so they are warm and quite heavy but comfy on the bike. I fair weather commute with them to save carrying jeans in a backpack. The D30 armour comes in 2 thicknesses, evo and evo pro, and originally I went for the thicker, evo pro, but swapped it for the evo because the evo pro was just too intrusive. The thinner armour fine though. They don't even pretend to be waterproof. Hopefully I'll never find out how good or bad they are in a crash.
