Hi all ,a friend of mine has dented his tank on his monster and for some reason the normal car dent removal places aren't interested. Any ideas apart from fill and paint? Cheers.
My next door neighbour has just done the same after dropping his helmet on the tank. He cant get any of the car dent places to even respond to him. He's looked at some youtube videos and is thinking about trying to pull the dent out himself.
The first line on that website says “unfortunately we are not carrying out motorcycle tank dent repairs at the moment” What’s going on in the world of bike tank dent repairs?
I recently used this guy to remove a dent in a bare 851 ally tank, first class work, well recommended... https://www.motorcycledentremoval.co.uk/
A lot of companies are realising that their responsibilities under HSAWA re. the management and mitigation of risk are a lot more complicated if they have to cover work on an open fuel container, and deciding the reward is not worth the risk.
Using a spot dent removal tool is a possibility, but the tank would need to be thoroughly cleaned first. This spot welds a small pin onto the surface and you then use a slide hammer to slowly pull the dent out. Watch YouTube for videos of it being used. I doubt if the kit is cheap but it should do the trick and could always be sold on after the job has been finished. I have used a glue-based dent puller on a 748 tank and that pulled quite a lot of the dent out. Still had to use some filler though.
A lot of the car dent repairers like to get to the inside of the panel and knock it out from behind, I have some small dings in my tailgate but non of the dents wizards will touch it as it’s double skinned.
Yes when he was telling me about it I mentioned I thought it was down to the tank being double skinned. You can only see it when the light catches it so personally I'd leave it.
Seeing the local dent guy work on the door of my car to remove a dent someone bestowed on my car in a car park by opening their door. The likelyhood of an amateur dent repair being perfect for anything other than a very simple dent is pretty low IMHO.
What about this company? https://www.motorcycledentremoval.co.uk/ We expertly remove dents without harming the paintwork so there is no need to paint or use filler. If the paint is damaged, we can remove dents and prep your tank ready to paint. We can get into and remove all dents, no matter where they are on your tank without a cut! This is how we are able to keep your tank looking like new.
Thanks all , As said earlier Mr dent was a no go. I found a place locally Dent-tox he said he'd do it , let you know how it goes
Where abouts are you? Had a dent removed on a car, double skin. The guy used stick on pegs and a device that pulled them, didn't even damage the paint. I'll send you his details if you're anywhere near Leicestershire...
